Lucy Letby found guilty.

But some people (yourself included) claim that the shipman inquiry had made changes to prevent this happening again...
That is a downright lie. Not to be unexpected.

Maybe, but on the news just now Rishi Sunak was quoted as saying the law will be changed to enable prisoners to to be compelled to attend for sentencing. We'll see whether it happens, but not everybody thinks it's impossible.

They were on about that this morning on the radio

Difficult when some one will get a whole life tariff ??? An extra couple years on thefe sentence ain’t gonna hack it

So you would have to potentially be prepared to shackle some one into a wheel chair Gag them ?? Drag them kicking and screaming into a court room

Its all very well any politician saying some thing

Now put it into practice ?

How far are they prepared to go ? And what are they prepared to do ?

Left to me she would have attended the sentencing or there would have been very serious consequences for her

That was if the crim refuses to attend and is not compelled to.

So depending on what you mean by serious consequences, it sounds like you would be prepared to shackle etc. And why not?

Exactly, that's what I was getting at in earlier post.

I think we've kicked this to death (which no doubt some would like to do to Lucy Letby :giggle:)

Show us where the recommendations have actually been implemented then!

You claimed that they had been, so put up or shut up!

Even Hunt disagrees with you as regards finding medical examiners as recommended!

Linky Linky

The death certificate update proposals were a recommendation and have happened. You might not like it, but it is a fact. You claimed none have happened.

Nowhere have I ever said that implementing those recommendations would mean it would never happen again. That's lies.

I went to a really great lecture on data science & machine learning in criminology, where they used data from shipman. Apparently he liked to toddle off and kill someone after lunch, regular as clockwork. I suspect Letby also had similar tells. psycho/sociopaths tend to.

Ooh ! My next appt is for 13.50.

I literally can't believe the topic of whether or not it should be mandatory for these people to attend their sentencing has garnered so much debate. Not just referring to on here, in the media and news progs in general.

MMmmm, should we shouldn't we ... decisions decisions ... maybe we should set up an independent review to assess the various options and report their findings in 5 years.

No wonder this country is now pants at just getting things done.

They were saying on a tv prog this morning that, in some courts, the (security?) staff sometimes advise they don't feel comfortable and/or aren't sufficiently trained to essentially force prisoners to the court room if they don't want to go.

Ok, so why not have x security staff trained up in handing such situations that can be deployed to the relevant court on the day of sentencing? And of course the act of getting them from cell to court room doesn't need to involve violence, although granted I suppose it depends how you define violence.

Are we losing sight of what these people are charged with? Crimes of the most heinous nature. And then, in good old UK form, we sit and debate the rights and wrongs of making it mandatory for them to attend court for sentencing. Unbelievable, there again not really ...

No, they haven't been fully implemented...

If they had been, how could this latest mass killing have happened?

You say 'Nowhere have I ever said that implementing those recommendations would mean it would never happen again'
(back tracking as usual ;))

So what was the point of the previous inquiry where 'lessons would be learned'?

And why is there now to be yet another inquiry covering the same old ground?

One day you may learn to differentiate between what you are told will happen and what actually changes for the better...

On second thoughts you never will !

Quote where I said if the recommendations were implemented nothing like this would happen again.

Not all of them, no. But you claimed none had. What about tighter controls on medication?

Because evil will always exist. It is like forum rules which are designed to keep trolls away. Sadly, nothing is ever foolproof. The potty mouths will always find a way.

Just tell the prisoner, "Turn up, behave, and actually look like you're listening and remorseful."
"And if you don't, the victim impact statements will be posted up on your cell walls, and played on video loop in your cell, all day and every day until you do".

Sunack and Starmer are going to change the law so as to compel those found guilty to attend the sentencing hearing

( Whole life tarriif)

That will be interesting to see what ball cocks them two come up with :ROFLMAO:

If your life as you know it is basically over, adding +1 isn’t going to change anything. Prisons have real difficulty with some whole lifers because they really can’t do anything to encourage behaviour
