Unless we're all suckers for Western propaganda, Putin is never going to "win" what he wants; most Ukrainians will not support him. I suppose he could clear the Ukranians out and just leave controllers in charge of whoever wants to stay.
When P gets his act together and blows the $%#& out of truckloads of clobber coming in from the west, it should be easier. The west won't keep the tap running.
US has approval to send more than they have, (up to $1.3bn$ iirc) but it won't go down well if there's footage of it going up in smoke.
