Don't what? A pull factor is something that pulls you towards a particular place in favour of another. If most countries have the same policy on families then it isn't a pull factor. You don't need a survey to confirm the meaning of words.

There's more than one pull factor often in the case of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. The chances of deportation and the chances of being caught working in the black market I should imagine play a significant role.
 
When I stated Pull Factor is was not implying that they could legally import their families later. That may or may not be the case, the rules are complicated but sometimes pretty generous - that may well be why they send the young fit males over.

What I was suggesting is that if someone illegally invades a country then is rewarded and treated very well by that country then it is very likely that more people, probably completely independently from them, will be inspired to follow their lead. They're not from an alien planet, they can read news reports exactly like this one from websites, social media, newspapers and phone and talk to each other. So they will be encouraged to pay people smugglers for their spot on a giant lilo before flinging themselves into the sea, knowingly taking a huge risk but seeking the huge reward that they know that we offer if they make it.

This is why I state that do-gooders, despite innocent but idiotic good intentions, are actually costing people's lives.

It's a house that someone based here could live in, in a country that's desperately short of housing.

But most importantly it's a pull factor, it incentivises all the other economic migrants they tell about it or who hear about it via the media to have a go for themselves. Many others will be more likely to risk their own and their children's lives by chucking themselves on a giant lilo in the ocean.

Arer the do-gooders really so half-witted that they don't seem to see beyond their dreamy ideals of being nice to everyone and making the world a lovely place? They are inadvertently making the world a much worse and more dangerous place and possibly costing lives as a result of this nonsense.

Everyone who turns up uninvited is an illegal immigrant.

If they can prove it, they're an asylum seeker.

There's a whole industry of dodgy lawyers and advisers who will coach them in the exact load of bull they have to say to tick all the boxes and make the do-gooders think they're worthy. Often the stories they tell can not be proved with hard evidence, it's based on word of mouth, so them, the people smugglers and dodgy advice industry take advantage of this situation. We're kind, so they laugh at us while taking us for all they can get.

You say we're kind like its a bad thing.
The country was built on the idea of helping others and giving people a chance.
At the end of the day, any person being granted a settled status will still have to work, pay taxes and contribute to society.
As a million (maybe a billion!) reports have proven, immigrants always contribute to a society, especially one with a labour shortage and growing aging population.
If you want the most dedicated, hardest working, strong-willed, courageous and loyal people working for you, pick somebody who has pushed themselves through hell to get here. The SAS are busy, but next in line should be an asylum seeker.

(ooh, that will rile some people!)

We don't even make the list at the moment. How many fewer do we want to attract?

If you don't have the ability to understand that your words are meaningless propaganda then you're so indoctrinated there's no hope.

Nobody outside of a lunatic fringe is suggesting that good people haven't arrived as immigrants, this is a strawman argument pushing against an open door. You might as well state that the sky is blue, you're just stating obvious facts as though they somehow disprove something.

Being concerned about immigration is definitely not racist or anythig else -ist.

The majority are economic migrants who have chosen to take massive risks, as they think that the gamble is worth it for the massive rewards we offer them. We make them do it, by dangling do-gooder carrots at the other end of an extremely dangerous journey. The more comfortable we make them, the more will die while attempting to get their winnings.

This sort of do-gooder waffly feelgood claptrap is exactly the sort of thing that will tear the labour party apart once they get into power and have to actually do something about it. The tories know this, which is why I'm now starting to suspect that allowing the numbers to grow is a strategy, as they know they've already lost the next election. Their only hope is to leave the biggest stinking turds they can produce ready for them, in the hope that they get booted out after buggering the job up as usual after their usual one term of power before retreating back to preaching meaningless positivity.
