More deaths in the channel.

Albanian men are the largest single source of illegal immigrants via small boat. Only 13% are granted asylum. Questions are also being asked why the UK seems to have such a high acceptance rate, possibly the highest in Europe? I think changes are coming.
This especially applies to motorbikers, and other social media contributors.:
"Politicians, commentators and others should be careful to show restraint in their language and not single out Albania as the sole cause of the UK’s asylum pressures. "

the numbers speak for themselves.

Maybe that's what motivated the Parliamentary Commission to speak out.

Thanks for this.
We already knew how inefficient, lethargic, random, expensive, potentially prejudiced and protracted the UK Asylum system is.
Now a Parliamentary commission has given us an insight into how ineffective and sexist it is:
"Nine countries, including Germany, accepted no asylum claims from Albania. The Home Office must explain why the UK’s acceptance rate was so high, particularly compared to other countries. It must also explain why the acceptance rate is substantially higher for women (88%) than for men (13%). "
from your posted link.
Without knowing anything about it, if a woman is subjected to domestic violence, that might grant them asylum.

Another news stories here reminds us how violent some families are against their own girls and women. People flee their homeland for many reasons, but usually the biggest driving factor is survival.

It's more due to the kind of "business" Albanian gangs get involved in. All the traditional organised crime: Drugs, prostitution, protection etc.

Of course I am not saying all Albanians are gangsters, but Albania is the single largest source of small boat illegals. There are many articles describing infiltration of these gangs and it seems to be Kirdish and Albanian organised crime. At the end of the day the margins on these "tickets" make software look low margin.

And failed asylum seekers, left wandering the street, deprived of funds, employment or accomodation become ideal fodder for these Albanian gangs.

sounds like we should try to stop those with no hope of refugee status from coming here illegally in the first place. Do you think if we had additional legal routes, people who were rejected would come anyway. I think the gangsters will recruit them either way.

There's already a standard, legal, recognised process for dealing with failed asylum seekers.

However, if they cannot be returned to their country of origin, then it's immoral to leave them wandering the street devoid of funds, accomodation and employment. It's also supplying fodder for criminals, black market, slavers and unscrupulous landlords.

Meanwhile in other news:
The number of people in the UK waiting for a decision on their asylum claims has risen to a record high, latest Home Office figures show.

And who is responsible for this?

No skin in this game but, if the gov. won't return them, and will house them and allow them to work, how can there realistically be a category of

failed asylum seekers.

?

Asylum seekers and failed aslum seekers are not allowed to work. It is now against the law to provide accomodation or employment to anyone without a legal right to be in UK. That includes failed asylum seekers.

They don't accomodate failed asylum seekers. They are deprived access to public funds, accomodation, and employment.

Your access to legal assistance to appeal the decision is based on your chances of success, as determined by the people who dismissed your application in the first place.

If you are allowed to appeal, support will coontinue until your appeals are exhausted.
"If you are receiving asylum support (financial support and/or accommodation) you will continue to receive this after a Home Office refusal, if you have a right to appeal the refusal (see below). This support will stop when you are “appeal rights exhausted”

Then you are expected to voluntary leave the UK, to go where? How?

If anyone finds all this information, conditions, processes etc, difficult to understand or negotiate, imagine being a newly arrived person in UK.

under labour the rejection rate was much much higher and yet we managed. Everyone blames the conservatives for not caring, but under the current government we have an 80% approval rate.

I suspect people are just getting a lot better at preparing their claim.

Either way if you are rejected, you can leave voluntarily as most do or with “help”.

Those so called failed asylum seekers needed homeless support are likely to be those that have dropped off the radar perhaps ls deliberately.

Two million.
Then, I know this a wacky idea, monitor then how things are working and adapt/change things (plan/do/check/act) as you learn more.

The Albanians are getting stick on the thread now, but we have decided to exclude everyone, no matter how genuine a claim the have.

Not any more. All are excluded, whatever the circumstances..
