My Tits are back!

They left it nice n' tidy for the next tenants. (y)
It does look a bit like someone's souvenir square of Wembley turf.:)

Maybe Mottie could fit and extension for next year. Seems a bit tight for a growing family

After a break of two weeks with nothing in the box, I got an alarm at just after 6pm tonight. The Coal Tit that checked out the box two weeks ago had returned and is still there 30 minutes later. It seems it has decided to spend the night there.

I might clean all the old nest material out of mine to see if I get one roosting in there.

That's a good idea.
I also have one in the front garden. There has never been a nest in it but I know they roost in it because there is always a wee pile of poos in it when I have a wee look in it.

This is the 4th night in a row that the wee tit (no offence) has gone into the box. His body clock is bang on as he’s gone in to within 2 minutes every time. It’s always been between 18:02 and 18:04.
It‘s the same when he leaves the box in the morning, it’s always within 2 minutes of 07:24.
It’s interesting watching it come and go.

I've always wondered if these lovely birds use the boxes in the winter....

I may put a small radiator in mine...

Lovely that's his timing is so precise.

Sunday now, this is the 8th night in a row.
And, it seems that it’s not a coal tit, it’s a Great Tit.

Tonight is the first night since Sunday 9th October, exactly four weeks, that I’ve not had an alarm at this time from the bird box. I’ve just checked the camera and it‘s not come home to roost tonight. It’s two hours past his time and I’m thinking of calling the police.
In all seriousness, I wonder why?

Europe's smallest bird flies 400 miles across the North Sea through stormy weather:
Not a blue tit, they find shelter as much as possible during our winter weather but i thought to put this item here to show just how tough these little birds are. The Goldcrest weighs as much as a packet of dried yeast and managed a daunting journey without getting lost, regardless of the weather conditions, at an average speed of 27mph. One of my favourite visitors to the garden and a herald of spring so i'm looking forward to seeing them again next year with a new found respect for their survival skills.

My wee Coal Tit has been back to his usual routine for the last two weeks. He had a break for about a week during the firework period but, seems to be back to normal now.

This is a screenshot from my phone. It shows the first and last alert from the camera in the birdbox. The times are when the bird leaves the box in the morning and, when it returns in the afternoon. On Monday and Tuesday, the times are only seven seconds apart in tthe morning.
It's only spendind seven hours a day foraging.
Now that we are around the shortest day and soon there will be a few more minutes of daylight each day, I expect it'll start stretching out its times.
I know it's not everybody's cup of tea but, for me it's interesting.
