Yes, my first tit has fledged! Just a backward glance at his siblings and he was off. Another one thought about it straight after but bottled it. One down, four to go. Looks like they’ll be staying overnight and will leave tomorrow.

How does it feel to be a Daddy again................

If you told me a month or so ago I'd take an interest in this Id of laughed at you, now I'm thinking I need one next year for my 3 old daughter to learn from

I was up at just after five o'clock this morning and it was obvious another one was about to fledge. Seems like the oldest and biggest one starts flapping and testing their wings. You can clearly hear and see the parent calling them from the tree. Anyway, just after six, it took the plunge. It’s now been sitting on my fence taking things in - it must be a bit overwhelming for them - they’ve only ever known the inside of a box before now. I’ve been going outside at regular intervals shooing off the magpies that seem to know there may be a meal in the offing.

How does it feel to be a Daddy again................

It really does feel like being a new daddy again. I think I get a bit of dust in my eye when I see them starting off in the big wide world!

I remember watching a wildlife programme about birds many moons ago and the part that stuck in my mind was that sparrowhawk time it so that their eggs hatch at the same time as small birds fledge. And, I specifically remember the presenter said blue tits.
Keep your eyes open.

The flowers make pollen when the insects are about, the insect eating birds time the hatching for when the insects are about and unfortunately, the meat-eating birds time their hatching to when there’s plenty of young birds about. I think I’ll have to get me catapult out and stand guard in my garden from dawn to dusk!

Good luck hitting Hawk with one of those...they can reach speeds of up to 200kph in a hunting dive.

Two of them fledged within a couple of minutes of each other. Got a few decent shots with my camera.

I got a particularly good one in flight when it flew from one side of the garden to the other. I thought for one minute it was going to land on my head!

Just the final one to go now. I think the one left was the original runt of the brood as it is still smaller than the others. The parents are going into the box with food, teasing it and then flying out with the food in their beaks. They must be trying to encourage it out. I wonder what must be going through it’s mind?

On Jeremy Vine today, they are going to discuss a camera that is trained on an owl box. I'm going to listen in.
I think it's this one.

I personally don’t think the runt is going to make it out today. Unlike the other four, it can’t get up to the hole so if it was to get out today, it’ll more than likely drop like a stone and will have to survive at ground level for a day or two which will be a distinct disadvantage.
