Putin, arse, elbow

They need to go back to nuclear ASAP.
A number of places need to do the same. Can't see it happening that quickly. Same with refining fuel - latest hiccup, ok get more crude but how to refine it. Same problem with gas what ever form it takes - where from. Spare capacity probably wont be available and will take a while to get going. Ships to transfer it.

Large commercial vessels, such as cargo ships, generally operate on HFO while smaller ships, such as tugs and fishing vessels, tend to operate on distillate fuels, such as marine diesel oil (MDO), marine gas oil (MGO), or even ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD).

HFO is heavy fuel oil. I believe that is what's left after other stuff is taken out of crude but maybe not all crude. I wondered what had happened to the price of that but can't find anything.

There is a shortage of LNG in the world

As Europe scramble to seek supplies ?

Dare say the European greens won’t want any shale gas LNG as a matter of principle ??

Angela merkels legacy to Germany an over reliance on Russia for energy and a million plus refugees

Actually if you went a read about it you'd find she wasn't keen on Russian gas in particular. Over ruled.

I was just looking at some figures. Russian oil sales to Europe has been dropping while increasing in Asia. Russia / Afganistan may have been about pipelines.

Why is refining a problem. Russia shipped a lot of refined products.

Oh they run a dictatorship then? Grow up. It's very easy to see why business wants gas and nuke may figure to. We have been trying to build some here for a long time - finally one by France. Japan earlier who kicked into touch mentioning not enough money in it. Greens always say no.

By the time you've built new Gas or Oil you could already have built cheaper Solar or Wind. By the time you build new nuclear any newborn children will be at University and still paying over the odds for it when they retire.

But we're a bit off topic

Your assuming that no one has done the sums or fully considered the alternatives. Also that political beliefs often ignore facts.

:) One green mentioned nuke on the box recently. She said that lots of power can be obtained from a very small space. She might also have some idea of wind variations over the U|K ALL of the time.

It will involve borrowing how ever it's done. Then consider much talk before any action and them finding some one who will do it.

Latest idea of net zero here is £1 trillion. Some a bit lower. Most passed on to the public.

People have done the sums and considered the alternatives. That's why very few people who can count recommend nukes.

It would cost half as much as Hinckley did to build 10GW of solar and wind in Morocco and then run a cable here. And it'd be done faster.

Grow up yer kin self

The buck stops with a head of government

Johnson

Merkel

Biden

Or any one else

Jeezus if some thing similar happened on Johnson’s watch
Well yes exactly ;) :ROFLMAO:

The project will generate 10.5 GW of zero-carbon electricity from the sun and wind to deliver 3.6 GW of reliable energy for an average of 20+ hours a day.

Merkel was chancellor of germany

Head of the government

The buck stops with her
The real villian of the peace is a predecessor of hers, Gerhard Schroeder, who is up to his dirty neck in Russian (Gazprom and Rosneft) money and who is up Putler's arse - correction, a personal friend of Herr Putin. He's allegedly so bent that many of his own staff resigned in protest earlier this year.

The problem is actually more than 50 years old and pre-dates Merkel a long way. The first Germany-Soviet Union pipeline deal was signed in 1970. NATO wrote to the then Chancellor and was assured that Germany would never take more than 10% of its' gas or fuel requirements from Russia...

When the Germans extended past the 10% "deadline" in the early 80s both NATO and the USA warned Germany very strongly and were ignored. The Chancellor who took Germany past the 10% and up to about 30% was Helmut Schmidt, with a deal signed in 1980 (so a long time before Merkel)

So concerns pre-date Nordstream by decades, but the real promoter of Nordstream was Schroeder who lobbied strenuously for Nordstream 1 and more recently Nordstream 2

Under Schroeder imports continued to increase. When she came to power in 2005, Merkel was content to continue with this "Ostpolitik". The result was that by 2019 more than 50% of their gas, about 35% of their oil and 50% of their coal (mainly for the steel industry) came from Russia.

So guess who has paid for a lot of the war against Ukraine - could that be... GERMANY?

For thirty years, Germans lectured Ukrainians about fascism,” the historian Timothy Snyder wrote recently. “When fascism actually arrived, Germans funded it, and Ukrainians died fighting it.

Interesting, didn't realise it dated as far back as 1970.
