And like other gigs, they have all adapted and changed to the circumstances. Why should it be an ordinary proms under extraordinary circumstance?

Have they? Have there been many to compare? I've streamed live and Youtube socially distanced classical performances from the Far East and Europe and apart from social distancing and face coverings, they're pretty much the same as they've always been.

But it won't be an ordinary Proms because of the extraordinary circumstances and the extraordinary nature of the Proms. However, it should be possible to innovate while respecting the history and tradition and not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

It's the conductors choice of what to play, and there are many other pieces of music that can evoke as much or more emotion.
The regular tunes played over and over again become much of a muchness (oooh, there's one for EFLImpudence!)
It's good to listen to, discover other music, to see the range of the conductor, and what his/her choices are.

So predictable of this deeply biased organisation - the quicker the beeb are disbanded the better, I am really starting to begrudge them the licence fee. Lets hope we have a choice soon

The proms are like a Catholic Mass.

They can both change with the times and have different readings/tunes but the essentials must remain.
In the case of a Mass it is the act of receiving Communion.
In the case of the Proms it is the singing of Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia. So many people, myself included, who have listened/watched a few Proms have gone on to appreciate a taste in other classical music by a variety of composers. Without those 3 tunes a lot of people won't bother 'trying' to listen to any classical music and it may eventually be lost forever.

Well thankfully, common sense has prevailed.

Nope.

There has been no meeting of the group, or its committee, no vote taken and no decision made.

You are making it up.

Doesnt need to be meetings, votes taken etc.

The BBC is reportedly considering whether to axe the patriotic staples in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests,

All it takes is feeble minded lefties. And the bbc is full of them.

Looks like this has been on the cards for a while, it is not new news, just reported again now that we are closer.
Also first suggested by Richard Morrison, writing in The Times, and reported in the Express. Pretty sure that's not the lefties.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1...-of-hope-and-glory-lyric-last-night-proms-bbc

... "he urged BBC music bosses to replace the songs with a "more reflective" grande finale which does not "provoke offence or ridicule" but "reflects the attitudes of its 21st-century performers and audiences, not their Edwardian predecessors"."

.. "Writing in BBC Music magazine he said: "When I look around me - particularly at the people sitting in the posh seats whom I've never seen at any other Proms - and realise that I can detect absolutely no sign of irony as they roar out these crudely jingoistic texts.

"On the contrary, they seem to mean every single word. And even if they don't, what comes across to the worldwide TV audience is a stereotype of Little England that was already being lampooned when I first went to the Proms half a century ago.

He makes a good point.

From 2015:
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...the-bbc-flaunting-its-vast-empire-zvrhv0nmg3r

And from 2006 - https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/restored-to-hope-and-glory-mxcj2h6r805
"Restored to (hope and) glory
Conductor Mark Elder was sacked for suggesting that jingoism jarred at the Proms. Now he’s back. Richard Morrison hears why

"How odd. British soldiers are fighting in Iraq. Yet yesterday it was announced that Mark Elder, sacked from conducting the Last Night of the Proms in 1990 because he expressed doubts about performing jingoistic songs as Britain prepared for war in the Gulf, is to conduct the Last Night this year. And yes, he will be leading Rule, Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory."

So the BBC sacked the last person to suggest not playing those songs. Interesting. And who was in government at the time ... hmmm ... Maybe it is not as simple as Left V Right?

Anyway, comes back to change again. Some people see change as a positive thing, while others see it as the end of the world.

They have. They ran riot through the streets pulling down statues.
