i dont have a problem with boris lying as he has always been a self serving egotistical misogynist with no respect or care for others 'he plays by his own rules and will never answer a question honestly
he is highly intelligent and plays to whatever audience he is talking to or aiming at with zero intention off doing what he says unless its to his favour apart from that he is a reliable chap

Can we invent a new word, or is there already one in existence that would suffice?
A word to describe someone's intelligence, which is exploited to deceive others?
'Intelligence', for me, has some kind of ring of honesty and integrity about it, and shouldn't be applied to Boris.

Maybe malignant narcissism. Apparently, they over estimate their own intelligence.
Does that suit Boris, in that he thinks he's so intelligent he can outwit others, yet they see through his lies and broken promises.

Johnson is in power because he has an assorted ragbag of voters who, for various different reasons, dislike foreigners and like their own idea of Brexit

As their reasons are different he cannot express a clear policy on any particular issue because what pleases one bunch will alienate others.

Rail engineer/consultant on WATO a few minutes ago. He made it abundantly clear that you can increase capacity or you can increase speed. You cannot do both with the same tracks. Capacity means more 'choo-choo'* services which stop at 'Whippet's Drift' and all stops to Leeds; and that capacity is absent at the mo, because of the gapping needed for the existing fast 'inter-city' trains to go through. Higher speeds means more gapping = fewer commuter services. Ah, you say, there will be passing loops. Our man reckons passing loops just make pinch points where they join the older track. What Shapps said was, 'a mistruth', as he put it.

fast services on existing track lowers capacity….because the track has to be free of slow services for the fast trains to get through.

We need more freight on rail. However, with the likely permanent changes in working practices due to CoVid - I suspect making the case for more rail infrastructure is going to be hard.

I guess if we ever get Electric HGVs then driverless road trains would be the way forward.

Ultra-frequent services at subsidised prices will go a long way to get it there.

Ultimately public transport is just no where near as good as having personal transport. Personal transport provides so much more freedom to the individual.

We'd like a PM who's educated, intelligent, well-informed, a statesman and diplomat, erudite, honest, hardworking, upstanding, of good character with morals and ethics - in fact, pretty much everything Boris isn't and could never be. And pretty much everything that none of the Tory front bench could aspire to, either. As to it being easy to criticise - yes, it's easy to criticise an amoral, incomptetent , dishonest, philandered whose sole purpose in life seems to be to stay in power, regardless of the consequences.
