But if a country wants to join the EU, they must settle and disputes with other EE countries so Gibraltar would prevent us joining unless we roll over for them.

Once you want to trade with someone you need to set terms, price, legal framework and a procedure for dispute resolution - that lowers the costs of trading and benefits everyone.
Now exporters and importers have more paperwork to deal with and that is a deadweight loss.

The UK will still produce steel, just not the kind of high grade quality demanded for construction, rather the cheaper cuts used for in the automotive industry when the electric arc furnaces are up n' running.
