Smart meter sizes, and suppliers stipulating one must be fitted

Insufficient space below the cutout as well - when that needs to be replaced, that cupboard will have to be removed.

Update on my smart meter installation following my 7 Oct question. This is the 'after' picture. Work done by SMS, working on behalf of Octopus. They had to put a new bit of backing board behind the meter and main switch, so the tight fit wasn't an issue in the end, everything got spaced out a bit more in the process. They replaced the main switch with a new one for some reason and put in new colour-coded tails. My only grumble (with the installation) is they could have screwed the new switch on straight - its distinctly skew...!

is that exposed red and black conductor on the top of the new isolator? if so, hope they are going to correct that poor install as it's a c2

We had that discussion recently. It seems that, although such would not be conformant with BS7671, it seems that it may be 'standard practice' for some DNOs and suppliers/meter fitters.

Given that it's the consumers side of the install badly terminated, shouldn't the meter monkeys then work to bs7671 or take responsibility as they have left it in that poor condition

Not exposed wire, no. All the old grey tails had odd bits of coloured tape/sleeve over the cable - red on the lives and an either blue or black on the neutrals. All the cables before the main switch/isolator thing were replaced with the new blue/brown cables and plastic L N tabs. The wires from the switch to the CU are legacy cables with the old sleeve on...

One would think so, but it seems that they don';t necessarily work to BS7671 even when they're dealing with something "on the consumer's side of the installation"!
