Smear Karma

Hopefully after this disaster the Conservative party will revert to the Conservative party rather than the idiots that have been in power for ages delivereded very little.
So really then, having labour in power fir a while will let the Tories sort themselves out and become sensible before getting another shot at power.

Labour might not be ideal, but out of the choices we had they were clearly the best choice. Well that's what the country said in the election

That may well be true, but I fear what was voted in under the Labour banner may not what the manifesto stated.

The conservatives need to look to the dare I say old school values and build on that to form a manifesto that can deliver.

Every party that ever gets voted in has a manifesto of ideals, but needs time 1st to get to grips with the issues left before they can really start on them.

I much prefer labour than another stint of the Tories. The country could not afford more of the Tories right now. The country felt the same at the election.

No contest right now. Labour was the best choice, might not be in the future. Its how our politics works.

My mum had a stroke 4 years ago, still going strong, but marbles are failing and my Dad, can't care for her any more. He's been paying around 60k a year and now she is in a home its £83k a year. He still has his own home to run and while being a "wealthy" pensioner, clearly there is no money left after those bills and his income taxes.

worked all their lives, paid taxes, etc.

So they worked hard, and scrimped and saved during 15% interest rates to put a roof over their head. Big deal.
This doesn't automatically mean they have loads of surplus cash.
Some are poor and some are rich.

Now tell me why you think both sets should be given a taxpayer handout.

What next?

Free doughnuts for the obese?

(Removed)

We looked after my mum for 3 years with dementia Only when it got to the point that we could not cover her needs 24 hours a day did she have to go into a home. Thats £60K+ a year.

How dare you say about extreme when you clearly have not had a relative in need of care.
I think your rage has got in the way of any possibility of a sensible response.
And you've resorted to outlandish abuse.

My parents passed away over twenty years ago, and were looked after at home by me and my siblings.
Their parents were looked after at home, by my parents and their siblings.
One of my siblings passed away over five years ago. They were in hospital when they passed away.
Another passed away during the Covid pandemic and was in care for the last few months of their life. it didn't cost anything to any of us.
None of my friend's parents, as far as I am aware, are in need of a care package.

Then your last sentence makes no sense at all. I never mentioned extreme
You've lost your temper and it's got in the way of your rational behaviour..

Data taken from 2021 census:

"Unpaid carers support many older people, and 20% of people aged 65 and older are unpaid carers themselves. Caring responsibilities can affect many aspects of a person's life, including their health, finances, mental wellbeing, and sleep. The most commonly reported challenge by unpaid carers is the impact of caring on physical and mental health. Other challenges include living in poverty, juggling work with caring responsibilities, and the COVID-19 pandemic"

And none of that is specific to pensioners.

I wonder why it is that the mostly elderly members and supporters of the Tory party are more concerned about handing out money to pensioners, even the wealthy ones, than about the younger poor?

Unpaid carers is a horrible hidden problem.
If only there was some way money could be raised to pay for social care for people who need it, from and for people including those who have millions of pounds worth of assets.

Imagine not even being able to think about care like that.

Yes it's tough out there. Are you suggesting they shouldn't have to sell the house to afford the care ?
