give me an example of where I said you can control the vehicle behind?

You are either being dishonest or hard of thinking... again.

If you give yourself more room in front then you can brake more gently than you'd otherwise need to, which gives the idiot behind more of a chance to brake without hitting you.

It's a way to protect yourself from the tailgating vehicle.
Yes. But there are times when you are being tailgated with nobody in front of you.

That space is therefore irrelevant , the person behind is still too close.

The only real choice is to let them pass. Nothing else, other than ignore them and brake as you need to

If there's an unusually large gap in front of you, you can bet someone will try to take advantage of it, causing your to brake sharply. Which nullifies your atempts at minimsing the chance of being rear-ended.

Is Johnny2007 still following you in his Audi, old spink?

If you have nothing in front of you, there is no real issue. If you have vehicles in front of you then add the stopping distance they haven't left, to yours by gradually increasing the gap. That way you avoid getting rear ended in the event the car in front of you has to stop suddenly.

The problem with the human brain is its fast reaction part (the amygdala) struggles to assess near danger and danger, so a brake checker, can trigger a fight reaction. it will usually lead to escalation and rarely result in the person dropping back.
remember you 100% disagreed with this.
Think about it. Slowing down on a road with nobody in front of you, doesn't mitigate the risk of the car behind being too close
Nobody told you to do this.

Nobody claimed that.

By definition though, if they're tailgating, they're close.

If you're driving slowly, so they too must be.

Any rear-end shunt will therefore be closer to a parking "kiss", than a runaway smash.
