Sue Gray

About 100 years ago Asquith referred to the voters as vermin who didn't know anything.

Nye Bevan used the same word:
"What is Toryism but organised spivvery? … No amount of cajolery can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party … So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin."

cruelty to animals...?

At 6f 3 I could sit in and drive a Lotus in comfort when Chapman ran them. No problem getting in and out either. I tried one in a showroom much later on - no chance.
It can't have been a Europa. I tried a mate's twin cam and IU had to cock my head over to one side to even get in! Elan +2s were far better

LOL It was. Run daily for not sure probably near +/- 2 years. However engine replaced with a different Renault version. The cross flow one that had more power. I decided to strip and check the engine as it arrived and found cracks in pistons. Replaced and found the same again later. Also found that on renault wet liner engines the liners needed taking out and new gaskets fitted at the bottom or the cylinder head gasket would start leaking. Sort of use once shimming arrangement.

Also the front wheel drive elan, daily again. He didn't wreck the Isuzu engine in that one. ;) The technique with that one getting out involved right hand on the sill and a push when a leg was out. A friend also had an early twin cam. No problem with that either. hoever down to the problems he had with the engine I don't think I would want to own one.

The front wheel drive elan drove fairly well with the correct tyres on - yokohama. Elan better however it did have a wheel size and tyre change.

Loads Of Trouble Usually Serious. Not sure how they are now. I seem to have run 2 that can be reliable but a pretty severe change on the Europa.

In a move that caused shock in Westminster, Gray was unveiled on Thursday as Starmer’s choice for his new chief of staff. The veteran official, who has led numerous investigations into ministerial misconduct and served for decades in Whitehall departments, has resigned from her civil service role.

Labour said she had been offered the role and hoped to accept it in line with advice from the appointments watchdog. The news has drawn a furious response from Conservatives, with one Whitehall official saying No 10 was “gobsmacked”.

Johnson has previously sought to undermine the inquiry by releasing a legal opinion calling into question its remit and validity, at a public cost of almost £130,000....

...and is said to be hopping mad at this turn of events.

Are you not entertained?

In a move that caused shock in Westminster,

Can anyone seriously be shocked that a person renowned for honesty, ethics and decent behaviour is not a Johnson supporter?

And yet she is going to work for Starmer, who has done a fair few U-turns in order to chase his ambition...

No politician is 'renowned for honesty, ethics, and decent behaviour' when it doesn't suit their agenda...

It's just that the level of sleaze/corruption/indecent behavior ebbs and flows with whom is nominally in power...

Because as we know, power always corrupts!

Johnson ............ is said to be hopping mad at this turn of events.

That lying, scruffy, fat charlatan - along with the other Tories bleating about SG's appointment - would do well to remember that they're supposed to be serving us, and the country.

And then, he can do one (as @transam would put it).

Everyone has political views unless they’re brain dead, it’s how you identify and ignore them. The problem is politicians who only think politically and assume everyone is like them. That said Stormer is playing lawyerly games, a civil servant shouldn’t be in such a high profile position so soon after retiring.

Blup

Why? She's ideal for the position given her experience.

Tory of course will make noises. Boris's latest following this i there is no proof etc by the interim report from the enquirey doesn't sound like it will be very good for him and could turn out to politicly fatal. The other Tory - stinking fish, her enquiry rigged etc. That does not fit in with their own previous opinion of her.

Since the Chief of Staff is at the centre of the Downing Street operation, he or she will always be influential and closely involved in government policy formulation and implementation, political strategy and communication, and generally advising the Prime Minister.

Not a great move for Starmer, up until that point Grayling was seen as independent and her inquiry had credibility. Now that she has gone political, it makes a mockery of the whole thing. A big waste of tax payers money.

It also smacks of arrogance on behalf of Starmer, as if he has already landed the job of PM and is setting up his team.

So you think that the Tories are due another turn in office? Interesting. But if they aren't, shouldn't Starmer be.building his team now?
