The EU Referendum

Oh wrong mate. If you built a million houses next year you could fill them all. You are right that the shortage does centre around certain places. Like all of england within 100 miles of London. It is true some people have second houses, but then why not. We are a very rich country. What else are you going to buy?

I have not read the proposals but I think it extraordinarily unlikely that anyone would agree to totally surrendering their right to tinker with taxes. But if they did.....how would this be bad.

If you had not noticed, people already go off to tax havens. By definition these are already outside the UK. So how would matters be worse if no one within the EU was allowed to undercut us? Just remove some of the competition.

You may find it unlikely but it happened the day we joined the EU but only on certain taxes. There are others outside their control for the chancellor to increase when he wants.

It would make matters worse because company taxation in the UK is one of the lowest in Europe. This is one of the reasons we have high inward investment by foreign companies. Geographically the UK is not best placed in Europe so transport costs are higher. Take away our tax advantage and new companies would locate in more central areas of Europe. Some, especially if considering new factories or such, would also relocate there too.

exactly. Some taxes are earmarked for the Eu but others are entirely at national discretion.

The other reason we have inward investment is because we are part of the EU.

Damocles take off your rose tinted specs and answer the questions properly instead of repeating what I have said.

The reason for our high inward investment is because we have the lowest company taxation policies in the EU. As I said we are geographically on the fringes of Europe and we also have a sea to cross too. Enlargement is going to make us even more remote in European terms of travel. Lose your tax advantage and the already more costly transport of goods will make us even more uncompetitive within Europe.

Is it not about time you came up with some positive reasons as to why you believe EU membership benefits the UK?

Not after you vote yes in the referendum, after that it is complete everything as regards tax, you cease to be a single country, you become a member state of the EU, you cease to be a free sovereign country.

Well for some reason i thought you pair ( d+J )were in France.

Sorry Freddie I meant to answer this before and forgot.

I live in Sale which is actually in Cheshire but has a M/cr post code. We are about 4 or 5 miles south of Manchester city centre.

Proposed new EU laws on flying time are said to be dangerous by pilots.

This interference in everything is rife. The only thing left untouched is reducing EU costs and requiring them to legally produce accounts. Private company directors would face jail for failing to produce accounts.

You are right about the backdoor federalism, I just wish more people would realise just what is going on.

Still no sign of our 20% tax rebate.

You answered a paint query for me a couple of months back and for some reason i dont know why i thought you were in France.

No offence when i say this, but when i see your name i think of the young yuppie couple who got killed by the werewolf in American werewolf in London-----yes i know i am strange.

The reason we use this name is because Julie (my wife) and myself also go on some other forums and we like to read each others posts. It is easier to remember if you both use the same name.

Did you do your painting OK? I can't remember what it was.

Just remembered it was marine paint, hope it went OK.

Yes thanks International boat paint, very expensive and strong smelling, just hope it lasts as long as they say.

You two are good at knocking the EU and demanding answers from us...But why do you two never post anything sensible or even part of reasoned argument to support your rhetoric?

And I do not mean one line insults..I mean truly reasoned comments...

But i have Engineer.

If Britain goes on her own, i personally think she could except for defence where she would have to be part of a pact be it NATO or whatever.

In the EU, fine as long as its an independant country being able to make its own laws that suit its population, and paying into an equal paying and receiving partnership for Defence and trading.

NOT SUBSIDISING EVERY OTHER BANANA REPUBLIC AND PAYING IN MORE THAN OTHERS.

Straight down the line, no crap, no messing, just equal, and if the others had to do the same, it would get rid of the rubbish and make a good strong force for the good of the countrie involved, shame about the rest, but not everybody can join microsoft can they?

Freddie..that is YOUR personal feeling..it is as valid as anyone elses..but it is not debate based on facts or extrapolated evidence.

I mean use genuine facts and figures to support your argument, not simply your Gut feeling...no matter how personally felt or valid it may be.
