They Shoot Horses, don't they?

The majority wanted brexhit but weren't so sure about the detail. Leaving to one side the principle, the way things stand the choice will only create delay and uncertainty which is the very opposite of what the promoters claim.
Which bit of "You I fear have a disregard for the ability of people when fully informed to make a rational choice for whatever is best for them" did you not understand?

Sounds like the judges scrutiny is a sop to the naysayers. So we will end up with doctors signing off the death warrant, doctors who swear an oath to preserve life. The bill drives a coach and horses through their hippocratic oath. .
Not the modern version:
All graduating medical students once pledged first to “do no harm”—the most well-known and fundamental promise. However, the original Oath has been rewritten to accommodate efforts to legalize and normalize euthanasia, assisted suicide, and abortion, which are explicitly prohibited in the original Oath.

The bit that normalises suicide particularly for the young, the vulnerable, and the disabled who are already made to feel their lives are less worthwhile. The bit that suggests the decision to get killed with the help of the state is a simple consumer type choice that will be quick and straight forward. The bit that suggests existing end of life pathways aren't capable of better resourcing. The bit that forgets that people cant already make a decision to end their life, and that their helpers wont be prosecuted.

Not the modern version:

Its an oath not an instruction, have you thought a lot of health care professionals will not be happy that some fat eejit in the house of lords has delegated the dirty work to them.

You're presuming people with Alzheimers are among those who'll be 'forced' to consider ending their lives and coerced into doing so by unscrupulous carers - that may happen in rare cases but the majority will continue to be cared for, and medical supervision will ensure their safety.

People with dementtia maintain a degree of capacity long after diagnosis.

Its an oath not an instruction,
o_O:confused:
I would imagine that some doctors, maybe many, will refuse to administer or prescribe any life-ending drugs.
Currently in USA doctors and pharmacists refuse to administer the drugs for the death penalty.

have you thought a lot of health care professionals will not be happy that some fat eejit in the house of lords has delegated the dirty work to them.
Have you thought that some doctors support the right for people to end their lives?
I would imagine the numbers that will be requesting the right to end their lives will be far fewer than the doctors prepared to assist by providing the drugs.

Are you including yourself in that diagnosis?

After all, it's actually dementia ;)

You really and truly have lost the plot!
