They Shoot Horses, don't they?

The bill changes nothing other than the convenience of supply, for the terminally ill. Except needing the approval of two doctors and a judge doesn't seem very convenient.

The internet tells you how to kill yourself in a few minutes painlessly in under 10 minutes, with consciousness being lost in just a few seconds.

You'll forgive me for not posting links.

Prefer an internet DIY system to a medically and legally controlled one ?

but now you are seeing Blub's point perhaps?

"State authorised suicide"

At this point in time, I have no knowledge of either and suspect its rather difficult for anyone to give a trip advisor score on the effectiveness.

Seems the options are kill the brain due to O2 starvation or kill the heart with drugs.

If I wanted suicide due to terminal illness, I think I'd probably not waste my last good months applying for a divorce from life.

He has never said what is wrong with having a choice . He has said he agrees with assisted dying (increased drugs at the end) but doesn't admit what it is.
"State authorised suicide"
A controlled system, nothing compulsory

So what is wrong with having the choice AND medical advice, opinion

Some people might want to be able to make their minds up before being at that stage. And then have that OPTION

I honestly don't get what his point actually is.

Is it that, we don't need the new law because people can decide to commit suicide currently, or travel to Switzerland, whenever we like? And he seems to be ok with medical professionals murdering people, but doesn't want to give the patient a right to choose the timing?

Is that it?

You are ignoring the fact that when something is approved, there is an element of normalisation. There is something "wrong" with committing suicide, but state approved suicide is ok.

I'm opposed to the bill, not because I am against assisted suicide for terminally ill people, but because it wont deliver what it needs to deliver. i.e. an easy way for terminally ill people to accelerate dying in a comfortable environment.

prior to seeing people die in a hospice setting I was very much in favour. But I've witnessed how far the medics can help and I just can't imagine someone rolling around for weeks in agony. For me the people who need it are those who have illnesses that will rob them of everything they are, months or years before they are close to death.

I believe he is concerned with the normalisation of assisted suicide through scope creep that will he feels will likely happen.

I suspect there is some mileage in this.

Then I think it would be better to rule out assisted murder as well. I don't see how one is acceptable and the other not. IMHO.

Assuming you are not being deliberately stupid. What do you think assisted Murder is? I assume you are not meaning Murder through joint enterprise?

Delivering a known lethal dose? or just a very high dose?

are you up to speed on the research?
