Because if someone grooms a 12 year old it does not make it more horrific than if someone groomed a 14 year old. I am pretty sure that I am not alone in that thinking and to read what you write actually seems to devalue the victims over 13.

If I read something in the media, and perpetuate it, perhaps not word-for-word, or with a little bit of fantasy added, and no link to source provided, it is simply not acceptable to revert to "take it up with the source".

My son is like that. Such phrases are not meant to be taken literally , so their intended meanings are only learned through experience and repetition.
