****** to be obliterated from our history!

i am possibly dislexics to some extent i dont know as i have never been tested

when i left school in 69 [at 15]we had 2 streams and full employment you either went academic or manual technical college route
i then left with a school leaving certificate with no qualification as such as they were not needed as the path decided by society [probably parents]was the manual route as education was not important as such just a job as the path in life
now i realise you comments about spelling are very light hearted but for me is close to a brick wall where its i could spend 90% off effort getting the punctuation spelling and grammar correct but choose to get it perhaps 80% correct but give perhaps 10 times more good honest advice as a better use off my time and experience :D

OK. We've all got our problems, we're all different. I apologise for the gibe about spelling, perhaps I was being a little unkind, we can all get a little heated at times.

So, back on topic, it's a dog, a fuking dog, who in their right minds gives a s**t about what a dogs name was over 70 years ago.

I mentioned on another thread that although being a loose supporter of 'The Donald', I'd given up any hope of him winning a second term, after his handling of Covid I reckoned it would take nothing short of a miracle for him to achieve a second term.

And then, praise be the Lord, a miracle occurred.

Black Lives Matter.

People came from everywhere declaring our heroes racist, pulling down statues etc etc. When people eventually read their hastily written 'manifestos' stating that police forces should be abolished, prisons should be abolished, and white people should hand over their homes to black people by way of compensation people started to wake up.

Fools complain about people like 'The Donald' being in power, and then strive to do everything they possibly can to keep him in power.

I'll say it again.

It's a fukin dog.

dont worry about it i suppose what i am trying to do is calm you down and understand the whole picture :D
its not the dog at all its the goading off some who think they are superior to others
until we realize we need to respect others as default rather than expect them to accept others in built prejudice against them we have a problem:D

Racism is prevalent in UK military.
There have been numerous articles, and issues about it. It continues.
The base commander has his own opinion.
If he feels it is an overt re-action against racism, he has my full support.

If he did not do something about the headstone, how could he tackle racism on his base, if an offensive word is written for all to see, and glorify?
Every time he mentioned racism, people would simply whisper the dog's name.

The dog is truly innocent, even dogs don't get to choose their name.
If the dog was named by the Dambusters, the Dambusters have a right to change that name, or just remove the name from the headstone. The dog's body and the memories would remain.

Edit:
I see that my suggestion has already been enacted.
In July 2020 the headstone was replaced, with his name removed. The RAF said it "did not want to give prominence to an offensive term that went against its ethos

There is no official website for BLM. It's political message can be and has been hijacked by anarchists.
Please bear that in mind before quoting scurrilous sources.

Well that will teach me.
I thought I would post a thread about something I find absolutely disgusting, regarding our national history and an animal which should never be erased from our heritage, and expected a modicum of sensible discussion.
I am left with no internet connection for almost 24 hours so try to get on using my phone. Didn't get the best of signals so gave up. Now, when I come in after being out all day, I find 7 pages of the usual insults, childish name calling and a load of dross.
Don't think I'll fool myself in future that one day this forum might actually produce a topic that everyone discusses like sensible adults.
My apologies, conny.
But I'm sure you would agree, we cannot allow mistaken, reprehensible ideologies be propagated without challenge.

My apologies (in advance) if my comment generates even more insults.

You can't both be right.

The dog in the film probably is buried outside the air base somewhere or it may have been cremated, who knows?

Guy Gibsons dog, ******, is buried in the grounds of RAF Scampton outside Gibsons office. The memorial plaque is also in the grounds of RAF Scampton and is surrounded by a 6' high metal railing fence outside the officers block.

MOD: Give us some credit. The thread hasn't been locked.......... yet.

Thanks for clearing that up.
I didn't know where it was. I just wanted clarification.

Fair do's to the Mods. There is no need to repeat the dog's name ad infinitum. You can make your point without that.

Thank you Mods, I appreciate you keeping it open and I accept your censoring of his name in the spirit of the site rules.
Now, if everyone can stop the personal insults and bickering, it would be nice to keep the thread on topic and have sensible discussions about what has happened.

My stance is that his name should not be omitted for the reasons I have given. When you start changing historical facts, no matter how little or large they may be, then you are re-writing history. History should always be a TRUE account of what happened, complete with warts and all, otherwise it is not a true account. If you don't have a true account you cannot form a true opinion.
Should we alter the facts about the concentration camps because some people don't believe they existed and are offended by the mere mention of them?

A British invention, first used in the Boer war iirc.

Used in the Balkans

25th anniversary of the srebnica massacre

When thousands were abandoned to there fate by Dutch troops

Yep when Europe turned a blind eye

As per usual the Americans had to step in to sort out European problems ;)

You wouldn't know that, if it had been written out of the history you were taught / was available for you to research yourself.
Which proves @conny 's point quite nicely.
It's slightly more significant to world events than the name of a pet dog of a particular person in WW2. Now if we were talking about the current attempts by the right in Serbia to deny that there was an attempted Genocide by the Serbs, then you'd have a point.

How very topical you are, linking in rewriting history and monuments to scumbags. A building dedicated to a Genocidal war criminal. But the rewriting of the past that gets Conny's goat is removing a dog's name. God forbid that some time in the future that should be renamed. That'll really wind him up.
