Bobby Dazzler:
How do you know all of those things that happened on the forum before you joined?
You must have been reading non stop.
Did you know that - wait for it -
ALL words are made up?
However, that does not mean you can use them for whatever you want or everyone would be as confused as you.
Now that we're nearly back on track for a meaningful discussion, instead of the silly round of insults.
Sodthisforfun posted an image, of when she was still Blightymam, which allowed me to look back to see what all the fuss was about. I perused many posts around that time, about August 2017 I think.
I saw some of your posts about ants and giraffes. I used one of them when you referred to someone likening racism to football teams.
I don't need to read non-stop, just as the fancy takes me. I might follow a thread about one issue, I might not. I might look back to see what someone was referring to, I might not.
As all words are made up, they are used for whatever purpose they are made for, and that purpose changes over time. There are numerous words that have changed meaning over time, I think IT Minion used a few examples. Race is one of those words that have changed over time.
In Victorian times it was believed that there were distinct races. That has been debunked, by science, in modern times.
Just like it was believed that 'ring a ring a roses' would ward of disease. That has also been debunked by science over time.
Words in the dictionary are descriptive, i.e. they explain how words are used. They are not prescriptive, i.e. they do not determine how words must be used.
