Just a btw - just reading about the South Korean K2 tank, the worlds latest design. Has fancy bits. Can lock on to a target 8km away.
Poland ordered 800 of them several years ago. RRP $8.5m each.

8km is around the same range of an anti tank missile. When Ukraine has been shown using tanks they have been firing over a hill at unseen targets. Few shots and then moved to avoid retaliation. Arranged for a reporter or what is actually happening? Similar comments have been made about artillery. Russia have used tanks to attack and what happened?

Abrams. It's hard to get factual info on this. Some sources have reduced numbers and added limped home etc
A total of 23 M1A1s were damaged or destroyed during the war. Of the nine Abrams tanks destroyed, seven were destroyed by friendly fire and two intentionally destroyed to prevent capture by the Iraqi Army. Some others took minor combat damage, with little effect on their operational readiness.

The Challenger seems to have faired better but there are reports of the crews loosing bits of their body. Still better though.

Pass if correct but there may be US and UK concerns about Russia getting it's hands on top secret armour. The Abrams need to be built and many months away??? Pass.

Zelenskyy is now talking about F16 etc, helicopters and hellfire missiles. Both sides have similar.

Some have mentioned a spring offensive. Some point out the sea of mud in this period

Anyway over time we'll see what happens.

An odd report. The west can't produce enough shells to match Ukraine's usage rate so USA ordering 100,000 plus from S Korea. If I caught the numbers correctly those might last for 2 months. Barrels??

However the news is due to USA's defence man visiting S Korea who wont supply weapons to countries at war. So USA buys them instead.

The FT says that Rheinmetall shells cost about €6000 each.

I have no idea how many shells are sitting in warehouses, but in the absence of a major European war in the last 70 years, it might be quite a lot.

Leopard 2 was tremendously popular, designed to fight the Warsaw Pact, and sold in huge numbers, many of which have not yet been scrapped.

If I compare, say, a Russian car factory with a German car factory, I could make a guess which would be more efficient and better quality, especially as many qualified young Russians have been conscripted or fled the country.

This time, Germany has the advantage that its factories are not being bombed by America and Britain.

There is a bit of a problem that lots of Trumpists are Putin sympathisers. This problem may become bigger as it gets nearer.

Rheinmetall says
""We can produce 240,000 rounds of tank ammunition (120mm) per year, which is more than the entire world needs," Papperger said in an interview with Reuters.

Let's hope Germany doesn't have a Bra Baroness pushing her way to the front of the suppliers queue.

 Seems Ukraine needs 60,000/month.

That being 120mm shells.
