Masks do not prevent the spread of the virus

Tricky to argue either way but evidence seems to suggest it has a worthwhile impact. Although somewhat irritating, masks are a low cost item so if there's a small benefit, it would seem worth it.

in general the thinking is a mask reduces the range an infectious person will spread viral matter.

I think there is also an argument that masks remind us of the virus and they may stop people touching their nose or mouth.

I believe infection risk is based on viral load. Healthcare workers have exposed to high levels of viral load from multiple vectors.....and higher viral load means more risk of infection, more risk of being ill.
