Vive La France!

The wording is certify and opinion, not approval however you define that.
84. The Abortion Act 1967 requires that an abortion under ground A to E is certified by two doctors, who must each sign a Department of Health HSA 1 form to give notification that the abortion has been approved and on what grounds, and an HSA 4 form for information including patient details, the method of abortion and gestation time.

85. A range of explanations have been given for the introduction of the requirement for two doctors' signatures:

  • to ensure that the provisions in the legislation were being observed ;[96]
  • to protect women;[97]
  • to protect doctors from breaking the law ;[98]
  • to demonstrate the medico-legal concerns of Parliament, namely that the 1967 Act did not make abortion legal but conferred upon doctors a defence against illegality—the two doctors are expected to police each other; [99]
  • to show the seriousness of the decision to terminate; [100]
The abortion (for it to proceed) requires their approval - end of.
Words you say. Tell me what the word approval means in the Parliamentary Report paragraph above. I'll wait....

It CLEARLY states the doctors 'approve' the abortion once they have signed it off.

So no approval by the 2 doctors, no abortion.
But it is the women's opinion that counts most according to the NHS page on the subject. That also mentions processes for achieving it according to the rules they use. The usual route to the hospital side of the NHS is via a visit to a GP.
Abortion clinics. Usual rules on pills used at home
Past that why wouldn't they use the same time frames and methods as the NHS does? How can they be pretty sure that it will be <=10 weeks - a scan. Past that the abortion has to be done in a hospital type situation just as it has to be under the NHS. Via a clinic it seems all can be done over the phone - up to 10weeks.

The act is one thing the medical aspects are the other but by all means carry on posting opinions.

Do we really want to relitigate abortion at a time when the right is gagging for a culture war? Instead of decriminalising abortion, prosecution guidelines could change to take into account the vulnerability, mental health or poverty of women terminating their own pregnancies...abortion law does need updating: the need for two doctors signatures should go.

Victoria Pekham@the Times.

Feminists will carry on lobbying for free abortion pills to use as birth control until y'all simply give in. How long can MPs stand to be nagged at in the House of P.?

journalists say lots of things

Do we have evidence of "being nagged at"?

how often does this nagging take place?

So you spent many pages arguing form HSA1 was not an approval ( it is)

And now you are arguing it’s different legislation. (Which has no bearing on whether HSA1 is or not approval (it is)
It is both nothing to do with the exemption in the abortion act and is not an approval - it’s clear.

Sorry to destroy your argument.

"Pills by post" has transformed access to safe, early abortion especially for women in abusive relationships, from remote areas or closed cultures, and has mitigated harsh consequences of virtual abortion bans in many US states. It is a policy predicated on trusting women to know their minds, to control their own bodies and to state correctly their stage of pregnancy.*

It’s just a report. Not law.
Why are you finding this so hard?

WRONG

The wording opinion is the judgement

Certify is approval.

It’s irrelevant that the actual word approval is not stated.

The reason it is not there is because approval has 2 meanings.

Signing the form is an act of approval.
Certify means approval? You are literally making it up.

The certificate is a document of the opinion, a record that is it.

But it is the women's opinion that counts most
Only that without her in the first place there is no abortion. Also the process of seeking an abortion has been made simpler.
However, once she engages in the approval process, the Act kicks in. Culpability and the penalties for not following the Act, lie with the doctors.
The main worry for the woman at this stage is time. If the doctors can both form an opinion in good faith and sign it off, the abortion is approved.

Omg. Even after all these pages you still don’t get that she is also the one at risk of committing an offence

The certificate is a document of the opinion, a record that is itit.
Once the form is signed and dated the abortion has been approved.
What is so hard to understand. Why do you find it so difficult to read, when it is presented to you in big writing?
