What have you been doing today?

Just got back with Mrs Mottie from doing some work in the beds at the allotment. We had a Robin sitting nearby and going after any worms that were dug up. I missed some action earlier though - a swarm of bees settled over there. One of the plot holders has some bee hives on his plot but they were full so he knocked them off the post onto a sheet, waited for them to reform around the Queen, wrapped them up and took them home with him in the back of his van!

Took a Turkey crown out of the freezer today. Having our standby Christmas Turkey crown for Sunday roast tomorrow. We bought it in case Christmas was cancelled like it was the year before. Bought it fresh and froze it. Should be okay. I still have my special Christmas stuffing too! :)

Update: Found these in the freezer too. I think we might have some Christmas crackers up in the loft too. :D

Usual dog walk this morning. Bluebells are starting to come out in the woods.

Our Susie could easily be a therapy dog - I'm sure she has a sixth sense about her. She will not normally go to strangers even if they call her. However, if she is anywhere near someone with special needs, she will go straight to them and nuzzle up to them. When we arrive home after a dog walk, our normal procedure is for Mrs Mottie to open the front door while I get the dog(s) out of the crate in the back of the car. They then run straight indoors. Susie always gets a smacko after a walk so she goes straight from the car to the kitchen and won't be distracted. This morning when we pulled up outside our house, a couple were walking past our house with a special needs teenager. Mrs Mottie had just opened our front door and they had walked past our car when I let Susie out. She jumped down and immediately went to the girl and made a fuss of her. It's amazing and heartwarming to see. I don't know how she knows, but she does, every time without fail.

I recently joined Facebook as there is a group specifically for our estate. Lots of people give stuff away on there. I gave that new dartboard away I found in Lidl car park on there a few days ago. Anyway, I saw someone offering (for free) a lawnmower on there today. Said they were fed up trying to start the thing. Only at the bottom of our street so I went and picked it up. It was practically brand new! I took it home, cleaned the spark plug, reconnected a breather hose, put some fuel in it (it was empty), checked the oil, primed the carb, second pull and it was running like a goodun! Runs very quiet too. Cut all my grass in no time at all and much better than our 20 year old corded electric one. I'll probably give that one away. I don't know what some people expect - they could have at least tried a drop of petrol in it!

Edit: Just realised. First thing I checked was for a spark at the plug. No spark. Checked for a stop switch, throttle or choke and it had none. Gave it a few more pulls on the cord while holding the 'run' bar and I got a spark. I suppose there must be something connected to the run bar that cuts the ignition out. To stop it, you just let go. I wonder if they had tried that before too?

None my students for this mornings session have turned up today and none of the lazy-arsed tutors who are supposed to accompany them will answer their phones. Phoned the school and grassed them up. That's two out of three sessions this term that they've not turned up. I half expected it - pretty typical after a bank holiday though - they are like lizards in the sun and need warming up before they become active! No skin off my schnozz though - I still get paid well and as I was expecting it, I brought some tools in with me today and I have spent the morning cleaning and fixing the gutters and downpipe on the workshop. Bonus!

Is that wall mounted kitchen to be left sat on the worktop? Hopefully not but I've seen this fad in the showrooms lately and it seems like a recipe for disaster to me, not to mention a drawer that can't be opened unless the space in front is clear.

Freddy, it is actually a 'stand-on' cabinet, though I take your point very well: not to my taste, but it covers up a ****load of pipes and the flippin' gas meter, can you believe!

Context: the young nephew has maxed out on this nicely located bungalow, so I am helping him as much as I can. Plus, his mum wants him out before she kills him! The cabinets are all second hand- a £200 interim solution with some new stuff to set it off.

Met up with a PLC programmer at one of the factories I work at, needed to alter the software on a 30+ year old unit, after a long internet search we found this guy, drove from midlands to NW, hooked up his laptop, changed a couple of lines in 20 mins, £500 thank you very much, what price know how?

What bird is that? How long did it take to get to the hand feeding stage?
Cock Chaffinch , Ive been throwing it grain for a few months, then one day I was working inside and it was up at the window shouting at me . I went outside with some food and it just came straight to me.
