What have you been doing today?

They look very fine, though.:)
Never underestimate the power of flowers in the garden. They bring in the bees and add common scents to the atmos.
Since one of the plot holders has introduced 5 beehives on his plot last year, many others are putting a little space aside for flowers. It’s like a 'Who can get the biggest number of Bob's bees on their plot' competition!

Went to a Spanish restaurant.

Dont think I’ve seen a plate of food like that before - fish, prawns, mussels, new potatoes, green beans and carrots. Is it a Spanish dish? What is it called?
Can't remember, bass with prawns and mussels in a saffron broth. Starter is a favourite of mine- huevos Indiana, prawns in curried baked eggs with 2 eggs cracked into it so they cook as you eat it.

Selling my late mum's car
Sorry to hear about your Mum and Dad.
Out of interest, what car is it and can you say how much you got?

Only interested as car prices have shot up recently.

Even our lads' pool car has increased in value. In 2019, it was given to us by Mum's neighbour who was giving up driving and could not get rid of it for love nor money. Really sweet lady, nobody wanted it, even when she offered someone £100 to take it away!

So we took it away. It had a patchy service history because for the last few years she just wanted the bare minimum doing to it because she wasn't sure if she was going to drive it for much longer. It needed a basic service and a cam belt and some new tyres (the ones on it were ageing Landsail and the spare was OEM and completely unused with a 2001 date code. It seemed a shame to get rid, but I thought it was best to have brand new rubber.

There were also a few broken bits that I have fixed, like broken sun visors, a door rubbing strip that came off, a broken window switch unit, blocked rear window washer. Second is a little sticky going up but not coming down (??) and there is still an issue of a sloppy wiper linkage assembly that means the driver's blade always slaps the pillar, but I'm working on that. Trying to find components to fix it that are less worn that the existing ones is awkward!

Anyway, fast-forward to now and the car is looking remarkably fresh and clean for a nearly 20 year old jalopy.

You did well with the neighbours car! Amazing what a little bit of TLC can do.. do you know what it's worth now?

Mum's car was only a little panda, 11 years old, but less than 18 thousand on the clock and she had it from new. But, luckily for me my dad was a, a fiat nut and b, a stickler for looking after cars. It was in perfect condition, everything - all the carpets, paintwork, service, cam belt etc, all looked after and it looked new - weirdly it smelled new too! Only one little dink on the back where I think he must've reversed into a low post. It was also stored in a garage when not in use so that helped keep it looking good.

I put 2 new tyres on it as were cracking due to age, put it through it's MOT 3 days before listing and sold for £2,800. I advertised it at £3k (checking before what it was worth and it was worth around the £2,800). He tried to lower me to £2,500 but flatly refused and he bought it anyway. Sold in 4 days of putting it on autotrader, so all in all very smooth. As you say, second hand cars are doing ok at the mo, lucky for me! It was also ULEZ exempt, so helped living here near London I think. We nearly kept it as a runaround car to visit dad in law in London but the panda is absolutely awful on the motorway, quite frightening as so light.

Been over the allotment already and chucked about 50 gallons of water all over my veg. Going to be a hot one today and next week when we're away. I’ve got a couple of the other plot holders to water for me in my absence. Off to my son's now for a barbie.

Motorhome skylight removed, stripped down, cleaned, all old mastic removed, fresh Sikaflex applied and refitted, 4.5 hours, mainly carried out from inside working through the hole in the roof, shattered now, shower & watch mens final with some nice rose'

Watching the tennis too, while ploughing through the ironing. Thing is, who to support? The wife beater or the anti-vaxxer? :)

Went for a BBQ over our sons today. Spent most of the afternoon in the paddling pool with my grandson. Quite pale when I went over there but now I’m as pink as a lobster. Sun cream is for wimps - I’m hoping to bronze off later!

Saw this at a garden centre, which we went to for lunch.

This weekend I’ve been painting, mist coated the new skimmed walls in the master and kids bedroom a couple of days ago, yesterday I painted the master with two coats ceiling and walls, today I gave the master bed another coat on the ceiling and then painted the kids bedroom ceiling/wall two coats.

Now, I’m sitting in the garden having a nice beer.

Tomorrow I’ve got a ton of sanding to do, door frames and newel posts, then 2 part wood fill the holes and stuff in the door frame… prime and paint, pick up some material for door stops, cut, prime and paint.

Hopefully get started on the skirtings and architraves for the kids bedroom… but if not then that’s a job for the next day.

Finish line is in sight though.

In this weather! Our kitchen diner needs painting. We bought the paint about 6 weeks ago and I’ve told Mrs Mottie I’m just waiting for some cool weather. November it is then!
