What have you been doing today?

In this weather! Our kitchen diner needs painting. We bought the paint about 6 weeks ago and I’ve told Mrs Mottie I’m just waiting for some cool weather. November it is then!
:D

It’s one of those we only get the weekend to get anything done and the house is a building site at the minute.

Missus and kids are back living with the in-laws so I need to get a wriggle on. I’m hoping the weather keeps up and I can enjoy some of it once it’s done.

This is the last major bit of refurb before we tackle the kitchen somewhere down the line… but I might just leave that till the inevitable extension.

Listening to a character in t'pub telling us all about his prostate exam.

"But he didn't have to play Barry White & turn the lights down did he" will go down in local history.

You did well with the neighbours car! Amazing what a little bit of TLC can do.. do you know what it's worth now?
Over the last few months, I have seen similar age and mileage cars going for between 800 and £1200.

Edit: Just seen one that is two years younger with 50K less for £2.5K Think that's a bit ambitious!

Over the allotment watering the crops. Just too hot to stay out in the sun for too long so have to keep taking a break in the shadow of my shed. I’m getting great pleasure watching the cabbage white butterflies going all over my brassica netting trying to find a way in. If just one of those ****ers gets in and lays their eggs, I’ll lose a great chunk of my crop. So far so good.

Took me an hour to put my togs on this morning. Have been sitting in front of a fan since. Will fall asleep soon - the pills.

You'll have to put another bird box up for the blue tits. They'll make short work of the grubs.

Is the allotment like a mini community or do folk tend to keep themselves to themselves?

Proper community. Everyone helps each other out but also there’s a few rivalries and some that don’t get on with others. I’m just getting my head round the politics of it all. We're having an allotment BBQ on the 23rd.

Yeah I remember reading something years back about two old boys that entered local fruit/veg growing competitions. It got pretty nasty e.g. accusations of one using weed killer to destroy the others crop etc.

Just done a bit of skip diving or 'ratting' as it’s known in the allotment community! I saw a load of old timber by the side of a skip where someone is having their decking removed. I asked if I could take some and the builder said "help yourself". I went and got the Golf and this time I was careful not to rest it against the front screen (last time I did this I cracked the screen when I went over my first speed hump). Bloody long bits they were too 6”X2” and in practically new condition. I took as much as I dared to load into the Golf, tied a pillowcase onto the end and took it slow all the was back to the allotment. Didn’t pass any police on the way - I think they may have given me a tug for the overhang. Luckily a couple of others were at the allotment when I got there and helped me to unload it all. I think I’ve lost 2 litres of fluid - I couldn’t have picked a hotter day to do it on. Trouble is, when you see stuff like this you have to move fast otherwise it’ll be gone by the next day. We're off on a break tomorrow so I just got stuck in. Well pleased. That Golf is a little workhorse.

You drove like that?
You deserved a tug

A tug maybe to check the security of the load and my rear vision which was fine. I even had an old pillowcase to mark the end of the load. Not nice looking I agree but needs must. Hey ho,

Packing. Off to Jersey tomorrow for Mrs Motties birthday. Was supposed to have gone last year but Jersey brought in covid testing on arrival (free) two weeks before we were due to go but you had to remain in your hotel room for up to 12 hours until you got an all clear. Trouble was, the flight was landing at 9.00am and we couldn’t get in the hotel until 3.00. They wouldn’t let us wait at the airport so we cancelled. Annoying thing was, we were flying on the 12th and they stopped it all on the 13th! Rebooked this year and was again flying with BA. They cancelled the flight so I booked again with Jet2. They cancelled the flight so booked again with EasyJet. All good so far but I won’t be surprised if we get to the steps of the plane and they cancel the flight or something. I feel we're destined not to go on this break!
