What have you been doing today?

Been growing bits & pieces in plastic troughs but bending over to tend to my produce is a pain, so today built the prototype trough raising structure (PTRS) from Unistrut, took about an hour with my £10 disc grinder, so far so good.

Had the pleasure of starting to paint the fence from the top of the garden, working downhill, this morning. A warm breeze and the company of Jenny Wren dancing in the dogwood along the wall made it a perfect morning.

Almost finished the last wall for lime pointing then had a relaxing afternoon cutting firewood D7316738-FADD-4D57-9F69-9E2E81CF2708.jpeg

Har Har to the lot of you. Anyway, day 2 and I had a shoe-tastrophy! The sole on one of my favourite Timberland deck shoes decided it didn't like the upper anymore so they parted company. Had to go out and buy another pair of shoes on the quick otherwise I’d be going out to dinner tonight in either my trainers or my pool sliders. It only seemed like I’d had them 5 minutes but Mrs Mottie reminded me that I bought them on a Mediterranean cruise we went on in 2009. Still, only 13 years out of a pair of shoes is not great.

Took Mrs Mottie out to a swanky/poncey (depending on your view) restaurant in St Helier tonight for her birthday. I’ve got to say it was the best meal I’ve had in a restaurant for a long long time - and also one of the dearest! I had things I’d never tried before - white asparagus with asparagus and olive oil emulsion, cured duck yolk and onion 'ash' for starters and turbot with a few things I’d never heard of for mains. Bloody lovely it was but I couldn’t afford to go there every week! It was one of those places where the portions look tiny but they do fill you up. https://www.samphire.je/ I’d definitely recommend it if you ever came here and had a special occasion to celebrate.
