What have you bought today?

That’s better! Turned off auto power saving and got a much brighter picture. Also fiddled about with the settings so that it doesn’t start up on the Home Screen and goes straight to whatever was last on - TV or Fire Cube. So many settings though…..

We have the two remotes, original, plus the Magic optional. Often as not, the Magic has walked, so left with the original one. The on/off of the original, doesn't work. My workaround, is to say Alexa - TV ON (or OFF).

Always turn my TV off at the wall.

"Mad Professor" who used to repair my devices told me that leaving stuff on standby burns out the power supply unit.

Workaround; get one of those extension leads with master and slave outlets, put your expensive tech on the slave sockets, and something cheap on the master socket.

Mad, is maybe correct. Why should it do that? LG's have two modes of standby - instant on, where the system remains booted up and the tuner powered, and the low power one where it can take a while for it to boot up. The only disadvantage to leaving it on standby, is the tiny amount of power wasted (0.25 to 0.50 watts, for the low power standby). Your scheme to add 'something cheap', wastes much more power.

I have three TV's on 24/7 standby, the only time they are ever turned off, is if I remember to turn them off, if we are going to be away for a while - several days.

You're missing the point, Harry.

If you have limited mobility / can't be arrised to dip down the back of the TV unit (to switch off "at the wall"), the cheapo thing plugged into the master socket allows you to switch the high-value stuff (which are plugged into the slave sockets) off remotely.

I'd rather the cheapo thing "burns out" - convenient to replace - than the £1k TV, which is a faff, and likely £100+, to get fixed.

It's not about saving a watt or two, here and there.

The more likely time of failure, of any electronics, is at the switch on/ switch off.

Possibly, I'm only telling what MP told me (when my hifi - which was used probably once a year) packed up.
It had been on standby though, for a decade.

A pointless waste of energy - leaving something on standby, unused, for that amount of time.

That's what happened to our previous set - switched it on and 'p0p'! - off it went.
August Bank Holiday w/end, too. :(
Ordered a new tv on Saturday, ignored Prime which said it could be there in a day...and it tuned up on Sunday evening anyway.
Plug n' play - hasn't missed a beat since. Three years ago now. £200, i think. Worth every penny

That’s the one my TV came with. I think it’s great - works fine.

One gripe, with my soundbar in front of the TV, it blocks the signal to the remote sensor and a little bit of the screen. I have it stood up on end next to the TV at the moment so will need to modify the stand to lift the TV up by about 30mm.

I thought you had a IR repeater with the tv? Just plug that in and have it pop out under the soundbar?

I've bought nothing yet, but Screwfix are doing a DeWalt brushless impact driver for half price...

On the downside it's Screwfix who I refuse to do business with...
