Butter!

I noticed a few weeks ago that Aldi had run out of their normal block butter. They then brought in Scottish butter, which was surprisingly really nice. Then Yorkshire butter, which was obviously delicious. But Sainsburys own brand butter is now out of stock. Googling shows people saying the same for Tesco. Morrisons had no own brand butter and apart from Lurpak and the fancy ones, all they had was half a box of Country Life. So I bought four packs and put them in the freezer.

Likewise Lidl, they ran out of their Danpack, lookalike for Lurpack, a few weeks ago. It didn't affect us, we always keep stock in the freezer, and it was back in stock, when we actually needed it.

Do you need to keep butter in a freezer - won’t the fridge be good enough?

I've never actually frozen butter before, but these ones weren't particularly well dated and they are more for reserve just in case.

It comes out of the freezer, the same as it went in - the only difference is that the use by date goes on hold, whilst it is frozen. It allows us to keep more in stock, acting as a buffer, without worrying about it going out of date. Usually, we keep the freezer stocked up with around four packs. As the one in use, in the fridge, becomes low, we take one out of the freezer, to defrost.

Literally the last box of covid test kits from Boots in Hornchurch. Last week they had hundreds of them.
