I wonder why not so much talk of hosting a family or two ?
Possibly an obvious answer.

The plan is exactly this, IE drag their feet and less refugees here and hope the war is over soon

That'll be the same plan as for Brexit and Covid then. Do as little as possible, for as long as possible.

These people need to espcape the bombings etc.
the Tory leadership is only doing what their cronies and most of the voters want, hence what we have now.


importantly, once this war is over and the first ceasefire could happen as soon as the end of this week - once a perma ceasefire is established or people feel safer, most may go back as they do not come from a deprived nation.

Some people will initially find it easier to accept those from Ukraine for obvious reasons and those with more than half a brain cell can easily determine.
