As you londoners will all be ulez'd out of your cars anyway, I shouldn't worry about it ;)
Trouble is, all the places that would benefit EV's use (inner cities) are the hardest to electrify for homeowner charging. No problem when you move out as most people can park off-street so charging is not a problem.

Our second car, a dirty diesel Golf averages 55+ mpg even with me driving it - Mrs Mottie regularly exceeds 60mpg. Should come under ULEZ charging but there’s ways and means. ;) It will remain our second car for as long as it’s working. If we were to change our 1st car, I’d probably go for something hybrid though.

Inner cities already have average travel speeds of little beyond walking pace and, in the case of London, buses and tube trains every few minutes.
Inner cities don't need EVs, they need fewer cars.

And in the rest of the world?
i have gave you a list of 5 major manufacturers .
The hertz link was to show you that even the major rental companies in the states which is possibly the worlds biggest market is dropping them like a hot potato

There’s one thing wrong with public transport though. The public.

Living in an area with row-upon-row of terraced housing, with parking on a first-come-first-lucky basis, and stuck cheek-by-jowl with any knobheads who happen to live there as well.............

....then making any journey even more painful than it has to be, by not taking advantage of "the easy way"?

There must be a logic in there. Somewhere................

Don't knock it until you've tried it. It’s anything but easy. Or convenient. Or safe.

Presently our 1st car is Patrol Hybrid ("half' electric). Second car is Petrol automatic and bigger than the first - I need an estate car for my hobbies and our travel adventures. I aim to keep that for the foreseeable future.
If or when we have to change the 1st car I'm likely to replace like with like. Today, if I didn't need the estate car then I'd seriously look at the Dacia Spring (Romanian Renault).

So why live there then?
I don’t. I moved out 34 years ago. I’m not speaking for myself. Even so, it’s a pretty stupid thing to say - lots of people have absolutely no choice where they live whether it be for work, family or financial reasons. Both my sister and I would like to move further out from where we live. We can both afford to do so but as long as our 87 year old mother is only 5 minutes away from both of our houses, we can’t and won’t.
