That's one of the few general schemes, and is no longer operating. It requires refugees to languish for years in a refugee camp somewhere on the off-chance that UK will select them as suitable, if and when they decide to do so.
While they are in the refugee camps, they are subject to the same persecution, etc that they experienced in their home country.
Just 1600 refugees were restteled under such a scheme in 2021.

The only other resettlements schemes, and was called the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme, apply specifically to certain nationalities, eg. Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Hong Kong or Ukraine.

There's also the Family Reunion Resettlement Scheme.

Thats not actually true. We have to remember that every single adult involved is committing criminal offences while in French Territory. Claiming asylum gives you a get out of jail for your illegal immigration, but these people do not want to and do not claim asylum in France. Therefore we have various maritime, Schengen and trafficking offences which would be easily sufficient to allow vessels to be intercepted, should the authorities wish to.

If they were stopped from boarding and leaving at any point, there would be no point in coming. The French of course are worried that any vessel they intercept in French territory, risks the individuals claiming Asylum and therefore having to be dealt with at the French Tax payers expense. That is why they are content to escort them to UK waters and hand over the problem. If you listen to VHF ch 16 in the area its a very common occurance.

Absoloutely no point in paying them more money for detection then.

From 'all' human rights agreements? You are remembering these rights also protect UK citizens and might one day protect you?

In most years, we have been well behind Germany, Austria, France and Italy. This recent spike brings us closer.

The Government are trying to do that. But while they are a signatory to the UNHCR, their feet can be held to the proverbial fire.

As has been said so many times, the most difficult and dangerous part of the asylum seekers journey is escaping their own country.

Why should Germany, France, Turkey, Pakistan et al take all the refugees while UK does nothing.
