Northamptonshire Council is going bust

So when the story reads "Builder transporting rubbish in a Commercial Waste container in his Builder's Van fined for not having a Waste Transporter's Licence. Doesn't pay the reduced fine; doesn't make an appeal in time"

Doesn't have the same ring, does it?
In case you're having trouble understanding, most people don't consider personal lunch wrappers as commercial waste, no matter what bag it is in, or what vehicle and certainly don't expect to get fined for it.

And there you go, there's the story. Jobsworths.

I don't know what was in the Commercial Waste Sack. Do you?

If it was "A" sandwich wrapper as suggested earlier, it would certainly have been worth making an appeal.

Wouldn't have made such a funny story, though, would it?

Is the story funny?

There's a picture of the bag online, at least taken from above.
It certainly doesn't look like commercial waste.

Tell me John, do you work for the council? I just wondered because I think you'd be really good at it.

it was appealed . There may well have been a kit kat wrapper which tipped it over the edge for the council

gert caught with a 2nd hand boiler part in your van & it can be or will be classified as waste by the council.

Jobs worths the lot of em . Yep that includes ALL the Tory councillers as well ;)

If he does not work for the council . He should :LOL: he would fit in well , he has the mentality :LOL: R bee could as well as an HSE expert

can you see the result of the appeal? It isn't mentioned. Try to find the word "rejected"

With all the other things he's photographed, surely he'd provide a rejection letter?

Try the word 'declined' instead as that's what happened to his appeal. Again, it IS mentioned in the press articles and again, read them yourself.

Some of you would be great at Rochdale council!!

They accused me of fly tipping, I was moving house and shifting stuff to the tip. Girlfriend and daughter were bringing stuff out, myself and son putting it in the car.

Jobsworth passed the house while i’m at the tip and threatens a penalty for flytipping.

Girlfriend explains the situation but the jobsworth is like a robot, can’t seem to understand that we are clearing the house and not flytipping at the front door. It’s infuriating.

I think Yafo and John have defined the situation precisely, it was a typical gossip story from the sun, and no-one (other than the council and the van driver) knows the real truth in the story.
But obviously some will prefer the van driver's version, while others await the truth, if it ever arises.
If it was, as the driver claimed, he would have appealed, but as John points out there was no appeal, and therefore no appeal decision.
Stewart Gosling, 43, tried to appeal the fine
You either do appeal, or you do not, you do not try to appeal! If you appeal, there will be a decision. If you do not appeal you are accepting the guilt.
I suspect the driver did not appeal because his version was a distortion of the truth.
Was that driver a**e end by any chance?

I said 'IF'.....
Anyway, by highlighting it at all and then using phrases such as 'above the law' it made it seem that you agreed with it.

It was the full story anyway. A jobsworth ticketed a guy for not throwing away his lunch wrappers quick enough. It doesn't matter what bag it was in really because it was clear it was his lunch wrappers.

If you think that it is the full story then I am not surprised at your comments.

The problems with the councils is how they are run and managed. Does there need to be such a system for example.
.
But dont blame people for doing their jobs, what they get paid to do. Blame the people who design the jobs, or even the people who create the need for such jobs. Like flytippers and others.

The issue of waste is expensive and complicated. But it isnt the reason why northants council went bust.

It is a sideshow. It's not relevant. Not like the purchasing of a supporter box at rugby ground etc.

First of all, how do you know the Sun were the first to run the story? There were several news outlets that ran that story. Presumption from you.

Another presumption from you is that the driver did not appeal. It says in the articles that he did appeal and it was rejected.

And yet again, you use a story to be nasty to someone with the driver comment. You already called him a fantasist over the whole story anyway, not believing him and yet there it was, for all to see for themselves. You really can't help yourself can you?
