Putin, arse, elbow

The latest German self propelled Howitzers are particularly impressive.

When you've got fire finder radar in action then the ability to fire off 10 rounds in a minute and be on the move again in another minute is vital. Then the return artillery or airstrike hits nothing but mud.

The Muricans turn up with millions of bucks for everyone . Ensuring the carnage continues.

AFAIC, whatever the Ukrainians did in the past, pales into insignificance compared to what the scum russians are doing now.

It's no worse than when Hitler and Stalin invaded Poland in 1939.

Does anyone criticise that?

How many of the 14,000 dead were innocent civilians?
How many did the Ukrainian cluster bombs kill?

Yes Putin has gone 1000 times too far, but there is such a thing as provocation.

Russia is the one that invaded.

Ukraine can’t afford to be under Russian control

the best way to minimise carnage is if the West ramps up arms supply

It nearly did. If the Argentines had working fuses on their bombs then they'd have gutted our fleet. Thankfully the French manufacturers didn't tell them how to fuse the bombs for low level arming. And if the Argentines had more Exocets the ending could have been quite different.

The inability of the Russian navy to operate close to shore means they can't land amphibious forces or resupply that way. Unlike the Falklands.

The dumb bombs dropped by the Argies on our ships were British made. It was the BBC World Service that were the first to inform them that they were fuzing them wrong. You can imagine how the MOD and the Royal Navy sailors reacted to that.:evil:

I didn't think the fuses were, I was listening to an audiobook by Max Hastings. But it seems I was wrong on at least part:

Wikipedia says a mix of US, Spanish and UK bombs, with US and Spanish fuses.

I imagine the RN were as amused as the Paras were on Goose Green. The war was a demonstration of poor communication in so many ways.

WArs always seem to bring out stories of mad behaviour, mad luck, mad what-if's.
In the current spat, if you read the US press the Russians are so clownish they don't stand a chance. I don't thnk I buy that. Whatever arms the west can get in there, is it going to be more than the R's have got? The west only has so much stuff ready to send. Wait until some US $100m's get visibly blown up in railway carriages.. Bad optics... Putin might even buy some Chinese stuff, with oil. Or he can use bigger bangs.
Could it turn into another "forever war" like both sides had in Afghanistan and other places over history? The invader doesn't really get much out of it, spends a lot, loses grip of their objectives, is never going to win hearts and minds, so gets fed up and goes home claimiing a job well done?

Yes Putin has gone 1000 times too far, but there is such a thing as provocation.

That's the problem there is provocation of several types including Russia and 2 groups in Ukraine.

My feeling are still the same - end game is the end of Russia as we know it. I also feel that Russia will come unstuck at some point but I'd not fancy saying when. While Ukraine would prefer the end of Russia I'm not so sure about it being their aim. Wipe out the bit of Donbas they don't control - yes. They were reported to have moved stuff up when Putin invaded. Western reporters.

There are more possible ways the war started than have been mentioned. If one solution was capable of preventing it I have my doubts about success. Without hearing talks that we never will there is no way of knowing. In some ways once Putin moves that many troops up his back is to the wall. However they built them up ~2016, USA response just war games. Ukraine wondered about an invasion.

C4 via their lady that gets all over the place mentioned 3 fires in Russia. Not mentioned any where else so far. She doesn't know the cause. Maybe more will come out tomorrow. Putin's comments might indicate sabotage. Currently he can say NATO is their enemy. He's correct really. It is now. That will boost his support just as sanctions will. That is unavoidable unless he is just allowed to get on with what ever he wants to do.
