IMO, Pootin doesn't give a toss about pro-Russian civilians in the Donbas. He's just using them as an excuse to take over the whole of Ukraine and bring it back under Russian control.
And have been shelling the rest of Ukraine for the same time. It's not as if the Russian funded and armed insurrectionists are blameless.

Went looking for info about that and found all sorrts, like "Medvedchuk’s Ukrainian version of QAnon"ffs, but nothing about them bombing the rest of Ukraine snce 2014.

The only thing I can add to my last post is the "odd" aspect. Defensive weapons and early on heavier stuff etc refused (2014). It may have have something to do with the Minsk agreement to prevent Ukraine taking more of Donbas. Things seem to stayed like that since.
Looks like the AlJ reporter has moved again. It seems shells flying over his head both ways - interesting aspect about the fighting. The Russians have taken a village near a town. Few miles on from that another were it looks like they are digging tank traps with an excavator. Russia also looks to be targeting check points - injured soldiers. Lots of people seem to have moved out.
Russia claim to have moved ~1,000,000 people out. They very definitely moved a number out of Mariupol choice of Russia or Ukraine. People were interviewed. Hard to say what is going on with the steel works now.

The Donbast separatists have been engaging in low level warfare with Ukraine since 2014. This should not be news to people.
