smart meters resisted

I vaguely recall having seen tariffs that are only available to those without "smart" meters, and a condition is that you agree to have them fitted. Those will be by way of helping the supplier to meet their targets for fitting "smart" meters.
One might expect that to be the case, but I haven't yet seen a case. Before I 'swapped' last year I must have looked at literally hundreds of tariffs. The conditions of a good few said things like "you must have a smart meter", but I don't recall any supplier saying that "it didn't count" if you already had a 'smart' meter!

From what I can gather smart meters are being put over as government policy. That's what the suppliers say anyway. I've been pestered on a meter we wanted to get rid of as did have 2. The 2nd one has gone now. While sorting that out they referred to the meter people who by the sound of it are the DNO's. Where ever people live one of the DNO's look after the network so switching supplier shouldn't be a problem. If a supplier can't use the wireless link to a smart meter they can still be read ;) the instructions found to do that though might not relate exactly to what has been fitted.

maybe you could rewrite that so it makes sense

better for you to not bother posting.

One aspect might need explaining - instructions for manually taking a reading - that is from personal experience so a case of finding the correct instructions.

This is the bit I didn't understand

No need to 'gather - is IS government policy, and the reason the suppliers are putting so much pressure on customers is because they (the suppliers) get fined if they do not meet the government targets for fitting smart meters.

That is all nonsense. DNOs have absolutely nothing to do with meters or metering. That is the responsibility of the suppliers, and even they commonly contract their meter work to a third party.

Excuse my ignorance but what are DNO's :?:
Regarding my initial query, I am having them fitted now anyway but thanks for the comments. (Didn't expect it to go on so long , but whatever, if people want to comment :!:)

It's the dno's fitter that fit the meters. :) Super electricians as they can do all but not always 3 phase meters. Or at least it is around here.

Explanation. We had 2 meters and 2 cu's. We had 2 appointments for smart meters so they cancelled one as :) must be a mistake. So one smart was fitted. The person that did that wanted to loop the 2 cu's to the new smart meter. Phoned and told no even though they carry the stuff needed around with them. So I found an electrician who would link the CU's and he removed the house fuse himself so wanted me to forget who he was. The unused meter had to come off the board. So for several months I ignored requests to come and fit a smart meter replacement for it. They even phoned a couple of times but as we were having nuisance call problems ans phone was on 2 rings. One reason I didn't contact them immediately was knowing that it would take a long time to sort out - eventually spoke to the right person after 2hours plus on their chat line. Shorter than expected - you just couldn't imagine how long it took to get the correct address on the smart meter they did fit. I eventually got that sorted by using their complaints service and expected to have to do the same again.

I told them it was no longer connected last week and they came and took it away on Friday telling me an electrician should not have removed it.

Bad move, and something you cannot reverse.
After all the comments ,and I thought it was safe to have them fitted, you go and say that :!: Why :?:
ps I am going to postpone them anyway in the current situation.

... probably because some people are very worried about what may one day be done using smart meters. However, unless they are still 'wearing short trousers', I doubt that (m)any of them will still be around if/when their greatest fears become a reality!

For what it's worth, countless millions of people have already had smart meters fitted, and that is not going to be reversed, so you're in plenty of company.

The government is pushing them using lies. They will NOT save money unless you change your usage of gas/electric which you won't want to do if you don't like being cold. You don't need a smart meter to change your usage if that is what you want.

Smart meters radiate radio frequency like mobile phones and though there is little health risk there have been cases of smart meters near the CU causing RCD trips when they (the smart meter) are interrogated.
