Some people like gardening, some like sport, Himmy likes endless debates about racism......I'm not sure why.
I'm not too bothered about endless debates about racism or anything else, Hawkeye, I just find it tiresome when some people use pedanticism as an excuse to peddle scientific racism. Scientific racism is a debunked ideology.
Scientific racism, sometimes termed biological racism, is the pseudoscientific belief that empirical evidence exists to support or justify racism (racial discrimination), racial inferiority, or racial superiority
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_racism
BTW, a definition of pedantic is someone who's too concerned with literal accuracy or formality. It's a negative term that implies someone is showing off book learning or trivia, especially in a tiresome way.
I hope EFLImpudence is a pedant. The alternative is too awful to contemplate.

You will notice, I trust, that I did not start this discussion. I joined in when it had lost its way, and to correct some glaring inaccuracies.

That's not an excuse for not trying, nor does it mean a very narrow interpretation is the only correct one, as EFL seems to.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/dictionary.cambridge.org/amp/english/racist

Edit: also language changes, if a word is used to mean something by enough people for long enough it becomes the definition. Otherwise we'd all say that Gay means happy. Slut means you don't sweep enough and Robot is a term for a Czech slave.
I've seen some comments from EFLImpudence about ants and giraffes.
It's a shame he did not use it again.
But I'll point out the obvious inconsistencies in his argument.
An ant is an ant (in English)
In French, it's fourmi,
In Portuguese it's formiga
etc.

Which word is correct.
Well obviously, they are all correct, because they are social constructs, dependent on the society in which the word is constructed.
Now if words are socially constructed, then the word 'race' is also a social construct. It must be. It can't be some divine intervention from some God to decide it's meaning.
Therefore 'race', racism', etc are social constructs.

You've proved fook all Himmy, so don't flatter yourself claiming otherwise.
Well, I've provided some proof that there is only one race. I'm happy to provide more.
It's your go now, to prove me wrong. I look forward to it, Roger928 or whatever incarnation you had.

Off on a wild goose chase. Again.

If you're a scientist, an ant is formica. So while "ant" "fourmi", and "formiga" might be considered social constructs, formica is not.

Same as a sociologist's and anthropologist's views on "race" will be very different.

But we use the words, ant, fourmi, or formiga, which are social constructs, just like we use race, racism, etc, which are also social constructs.
As you demonstrate that there is another word for ants, there is a better word to classify humans into different categories, e.g ethnicity, cultures, religions, nationalities, etc.

Same as a sociologist's and anthropologist's views on "race" will be very different.
By all means enlighten us, with up-to-date views, not some Victorian values.

I don't care if they remove the name or not

I am. Not Offended.

Last time I saw the film. The name was still used

Dare say the name has now been taken out or the film banned

Google it. Knock yourself out. You don't need me to do it for you, do you ? (y)
OK
Modern scholarship views racial categories as socially constructed.
New studies of culture and the fledgling field of population genetics undermined the scientific standing of racial essentialism, leading race anthropologists to revise their conclusions about the sources of phenotypic variation. A significant number of modern anthropologists and biologists in the West came to view race as an invalid genetic or biological designation.

A consensus consequently developed among anthropologists and geneticists that race as the previous generation had known it – as largely discrete, geographically distinct, gene pools – did not exist.

Good enough for you. Proven again that modern science sees race and racism as social constructs.
