There is lots of speculation around odds. Most of it is what some say she could do. The IFS kicked that off by saying borrow your way out of the problems. However when more info arrived that no one is arguing about they had a change of mind.

The IFS view on the budget. It's not MBK or John D. They point out that it is not easy to hit specific areas of taxation hard enough to get the income needed. The 2% NI cut was worth £20b. This is a direct indication of where a lot of the money comes from - the taxes they say they wont touch. So they expect smaller changes in a number of taxes other than those that total to a useful amount. That view is likely to be correct.

Yes but amounts probably exaggerated and time scales and levels will be what ever she decides. Why simple - affordability. This relates to her main aim which is to demonstrate stability so that investers can plan with more certainty. Other countries are having similar ideas concerning fiscal rules - use the basics, plan expenditure and stick to them. Don't be tempted to stray which is something that happens.
This action is a cut in this expenditure not an end to it.

Yet another civil service unit has been set up. It's job look at planned expenditure in areas like these and ask if they are good for productivity or not really. A railways station face lift is an interesting example. It may look better but will it boost productivity. Questions like this. It's causing ructions in the civil service as they cut across all areas each of which will have their own advisors and pet projects.

Parties get voted in, and they get voted out. They tend to focus on different priorities and spending plans. Again, does that really surprise you?

He doesn't seem to notice that Labour are reducing spending plans.That means they have to set priorities.

Loads of simplistic ideas about a rather complex subject are kicking about. Much of it no more than rumour. Even the IFS can't forecast what they are going to do overall. They could theorise a need but haven't even done that. Serious economists do agree with Reeves's basic aims and see them as essential. The only question they ask concerns borrowing and what for. Well they do have a scheme of sorts in place. It loosely goes only if it results in growth. Quantity has limitations. Also not use it for running the country,

So we get the budget. That will help but fact is over all factors are likely to need some months. What will the effect of more tax imspectors be is just a for instance. Also any new laws.
