If Ukraine are given the weapons they will beat Russia
If Ukraine were given big enough weapons to do serious damage to Russia, Putin could have a damned good go at obliterating Ukraine. "Small" nukes as necessary. Nobody in the west would strike Russia but there wouldn't be enough Ukraine to fight over.

Since Soviet days ended there have been areas in Ukraine where the population were keen to be Russia-governed. They never got a say.
There were ambiguous agreements in the accords (inc Minsk) which neither side held to. The ethnic Russians were supposed to have support/protections, supplied by Kiev, which they never got. Kiev used cluster bombs on the "rebels", who were in and amongst the population.
Russia AND The West were applying all the pressure they could, on leaders up to/including Poroshenko, though I have no Idea how much effect it had. Russia rigged elections of locals in the south east. It's easy for each side to blame the other with a degree of justification. Putin of course claimed the military operation was to secure the ethnic/pro Russians.
SImilar stories in Moldova and Georgia wrt elections. If the pro-Russia side hadn't won in Georgia, they would have been invaded next. Enforcing "Stability in the Region" is used often enough. Eden used it in Suez...

You want the war to go on then, possible a world war.
Doing a deal with Putin won’t end the war.

Putin has already broken two Minsk agreements.

If Trump forces a deal all that would happen is Putin would go away, rebuild his military then restart his Imperialist ambitions

Russia is suffering seriously depleted weapons and men right now, so the time to defeat him is now.

Filly, Russia is a key player in the Middle East conflict, a strong Putin will mean more funding and weapons to Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah

It's not quite like that, there are people in that neck of the woods who consider themselves 'Russian'. Who the **** are you to tell them otherwise. Up until the mid sixties people born in the West Bank considered themselves Jordanians, because they were, at the same time people born in the West Bank considered themselves Egyptians, because they were. Who the **** are you to tell them otherwise?

FFS man, smell the coffee and brush uo on yer history
There is no evidence people of Donbas want to be under Russian control.

I suggest you brush up on the facts

What a surprise Filly has been brainwashed by Trump and has turned into a Putin apologist

Farage, Johnson, Trump all big fans of Putin…..so Filly trots along happily drinking the Koolaid

I think he was just bladdered. He spouted a lot of bile and abuse last night.

Since Soviet days ended there have been areas in Ukraine where the population were keen to be Russia-governed. They never got a say.
A fact that didn't get reported on to any great extent and before the invasion. C4 had a go and odd factors turned up in some other reports. It results in a tendency for an east west split. This area came up again when Russia allowed some who wanted to go to leave an occupied area. Some did then stated they just could not understand why others remained, they are happy so must be mad.

Reports on the earlier period when Ukrainians were fighting each other have an interesting factor. While the US and UK provided some forms of training they would not supply weapons.

Lastly earlier USA Russia talks concerning Ukraine. Reporters know these happened.

What will Trump do? Pundits are reluctant to say. One points out that he now gets security briefs so no change.

More sensible than 'just let Putin win' you mean? Not sure how things will play out, if the US are not on board with Ukraine.

How do you see it playing out in 2025 MBK?
Putin will never stop unless he can get some kind of win. So you carry on until someone bumps him off or he dies or you find some way for him to have a token win. For Ukraine not being able to join the EU or NATO maybe they have to pick one in exchange for the other.

I think 2015 map and ukrain being allowed to join NATO might be where they end up. Trump won’t be a fan of them joining the EU, that will take years anyway.
Another option would be the seized land to be some sort of demilitarised zone independent from both.

The blinding irony of being told by F.boy to brush up on your history is...

I didn't mention Donbas. Over 90% of people in Crimea want to be part of Russia.
90% of Crimeans, when asked at gunpoint decided yes they did want to be part of Russia.

“However, it is worth noting that only only 1 percent of Crimeans mentioned Russia as a homeland and only 10 percent mentioned the Soviet Union. This suggests that even though Crimeans have much stronger pro-Russian geo-political preferences than other Ukrainians (see Figure 2) these preferences did not translate into a strong emotional identification with Russia. Moreover, in a more recent Razumkov Center survey (from December 21-25 2013), while substantial minorities endorsed either Crimean independence (35 percent) or joining “another state” (29 percent), a majority (56 percent was opposed to either of the political options involving Crimea’s separation from Ukraine.”
