Ukraine counter offensive

If you go along with the apparently objective observers, Russia is currently moving forwards, not Ukraine.
they invaded last year, got pushed back by a vast amount and have now recovered a tiny bit of ground

Russia is only moving forwards if you count from where it got pushed back to

Just a word on this help the uk and eu is giving. It’s great but we have the weapons and technology to pulverise risssia and its army. It’s fear of nuklear escalation that’s stopping the west doing more. That is the context for a war that is going to go on for years

Blup

What's your point?

I mean, what you say isn't exactly true, is it.
Compared to where they started, they're ahead.
Compared to yesterday. or last week or last month, they're ahead.
You get waves while the tide's coming in.

They might collapse completely and go back to some meta-stable point, even if that's Crimea, but I don't think the west would push for that far.
I don't think Russia wants the whole of Ukraine under military rule either, and it doesn't look like they could achieve it.

There's something approaching stalemate at the mo, with both sides using up ammo - Ukraine less because it's easier to defend than inch forwards.
It'll be insteresting to see what if any whizz-bang weapons are brought to bear in the Anniversary Offensive, or if shortages will really bite.
Air power could be overwhelming, but again it doesn't look likely to be used much because of inevitable losses.

So that would be 75% no - 25% yes. Why on earth is Vlad the Invader trying to overcome the will of the people?
Maybe all the people of Britain should be allowed to vote in any future Scottish referendum.
or we allow him to do as he wants. Which do you think is best for the world longer term
The days when Europeans could decide whats "best for the world" are drawing to a close.
Ukraine in its present configuration isn't working, maybe its time to try something different.

I wonder who they will sell to next year, and the year after?
You were saying that last year Lol.
Russia shares a 4000 kilometre border with China.
Russia has the resources and China has the manufacturing capacity.
Due to the actions of the EU and its military wing Nato, the Russians are now in alliance with the Chinese.
The EU s put a gun to its own head and threatened to shoot itself if Russia doesn't back down.
How smart is that.

You've fallen into the trap of believing your own propaganda. Vlad the Invader is the tyrant here.

And doesn't have a pipeline.
It soon will have.
Russia and China were never natural allies but they are now covering each others back out of mutual self interest.
There was a point after the dissolution of the Soviet union, where the EU and the Russians could have had a positive relationship, however the intervention of the Americans and the IMF caused the collapse of the Russian economy and paved the way for Putin to take control.

They can develop sales to China, Japan, India, far east generally. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/4455542.stm
Some of those countries don't care very much about CO2.

I can't remember the economic argument but the gist of something independent I saw was they're so big they don't need to fit in with the rest of the world, on many things. They used to rely on Americal cereals, but not now. Thay have oil, minerals; if youdon't want to buy them, never mind, off you go.

There was another "Putin and the west" prog last night which indicated something of the attitude. It's a bit like Ukraine is an unruly child, definitely in their family. Russia is world power number 2 after the US, the biggest country in the world, more tanks and nuclear weapons than anyone and if you bother him much he can swat you down.
HIS country isn't at war, it's just a little local difficulty.
