Ukraine counter offensive

If that's their take on it then it's pretty crap analysis.

Ukraine needs to breach the minefields and trenches Russia has built. Those breaches are very hard to make under artillery fire and are useless until Russian forces have been worn down so they're no longer able to respond to the breakthrough and they can't re establish minefields. This is what happened in Kherson.

This is a war of attrition, endurance and efficiency.
They tend to summarise events and you have to click links on the website for more detail. It is a war of attrition which suits Russia for now. Another year of this will see NATO drawn deeper into the mire and i don't think we're going to like that at all - inflation is already hard to control and a recession will really test our mettle.

Perhaps it will prompt Russia to reconsider its use of these munitions.
Maybe. But the big argument for Ukraine is that they will use them in their own country to defend it. Not as an assault on another country.

Doesn't make it right, but war (special military operation anyone?) is a dirty business

That's assuming Russia is able to manage the attrition better than Ukraine. Given the Russian vehicle reserves are mostly tapped out but the Western ones are still plentiful that seems like a poor bet.

But they still have plenty of cannon fodder to throw in the line - and so long as the line holds Putin has plenty of chips to stay in the game. Unless one of his Generals has other ideas...

Imo putin will be ousted by the end of the year

Or his power / clout severely curtailed

??????

It’s been stated ?? That the west at this time are finding it difficult to manufacture enough missiles and artillery shells to keep up with the Ukranian demand ??? Usage ??

The US have massive stock piles of cluster munitions

So they may as well supply the Ukranians with there stock ??? Which solves the supply issues

No one has enough manufacturing capability to keep up with high intensity warfare demands. You always stockpile ahead and hope you've got enough to last however long the war is.

100,000 assorted 120 and 155mm rounds is maybe 3-5 days supply.

Without air defence Ukraines counter offensive will be very slow

NATO armoured vehicles and military strategy is based on having lots of air power.

In terms of Ukraines advance, it is being hampered by land mines - a major problem even for Western forces.

cluster munitions will help destroy Russian defence lines - once they’ve been breached the rest of the Russian defence lines will be extremely vulnerable - defences are only strong in one direction

The Americans dropped 5 million of tons of bombs on Vietnam and achieved nothing apart from bankrupting their own country and killing millions of innocents who were no threat to them.
They never learn do they.

They learnt that unguided munitions were incredibly inefficient. That was was the start of smart munitions. Russia doesn't seem to have gotten the memo.

Russia has no real equivalent of HIMARS, Brimstone missiles Excalibur, BONUS or SMArt shells. They rely on cluster munitions and area bombardment.

Tell me again that it's America that hasn't learnt from previous wars.

Ukraines Mossad style assination (?) campaign claims another high profile Russian army commander

The commander of a Russian sub allegedly responsible for missile attacks was bumped off whilst out jogging

Ukranian intel services have become competent and deadly

Cluster bombs can be used to help clear mine fields, not perfectly but enough to let tanks go through, I read. It's reported to take hundreds of years to clear dud US cluster bombs (and mines) from Laos before they're safe for civvies.

The psych impact of a field-killing cluster bomb must be immense. If that makes the Russians go away, fine.

It seems the Russians are getting annoyed.

Russia has taken control of the Russian subsidiaries of yoghurt maker Danone and beer company Carlsberg.
The units have been put in "temporary management" of the state, under a new order signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

from the Beeb

And they've officially announced their opposition to extending the grain deal.
