Most military experts say it would go nuclear. And I've no doubt of that.
When western forces were in Iraq, it took them several months just to clear mosul.
I seen very little to be impressed about.

Do you mean in 2016 when Iraqi and Peshmerga forces took several months to take Mosul, and the Western forces total losses was 2 men killed, or in 2003 when Mosul fell in less than 3 weeks?

I think he means the siege of Mariupol, which took 85 days for the Russian army to take the city whilst leveling 95% of it

The KGB was dissolved a while ago and replaced with the FSB and SVR. Loose equivalents CIA and FBI etc. The STASI were secret police largely related to E Germany.

Maybe you meant Spetsnaz GRU. Special forces and military intelligence. Intelligence agencies may well make use of special forces. Nothing that unusual. We have MI5 and 6.

Putin - well he was elected and has been popular. How did he get elected - talk just like they all do. What a Russian said to me on that score is that they know the west doesn't like them and feel they need a strong leader. So he rides bare chested on a horse, judo, Boris sort of abseils of a building waving a flag.

The Finns thought the same.
Finland, a country of only 5 million, inflicted a huge defeat on Russia.
The Russians returned and overran Finland and half of Europe.
