It didn't stop the war.
Most Japanese were not aware that nuclear bombs had been dropped.
It was the Russian declaration of war on Japan that forced the Japanese to surrender.

It is always easy to find evidence of Russian bad behaviour but it seems to be quite difficult to find any evidence of Ukrainian bad behavior.

The answer appears quite simple.
Only Russians commit atrocities.
If the Americans or their allies bomb an orphanage anywhere in the world it is generally referred to by the media as a tragedy.
When Russia or its allies bomb an orphanage anywhere in the world it is referred to by the media as an atrocity.
That appears to be the reason only Russia commits war crimes.

You are correct that the Soviets declared war after Hiroshima but the Japanese didn't surrender after Hiroshima either.
They surrendered after the Russians declared war on them.

There was a video of a Ukrainian soldier apparently mutilating and killing a PoW a while back. The Ukrainian defense minister responded that it will be investigated and if true the offender would be punished.
This was around the time Ukraine had retaken one of their towns where Russian troops had executed civilians. The Russian defense secretary said that it was all a fake.
1) Ukraine has been accused of war crimes.
2) Russia has had far more opportunity to commit crimes against civilians. And there's a **** load of evidence of them.
3) When Russia has claimed war crimes the evidence is spotty or occasionally badly faked. There must be some real ones but Russia lies so often and so badly it's hard to tell when they aren't.
4) Russian doctrine includes various war crimes as part of making war. It has been seen in every way they have been engaged in for the last two decades. It is how they fight.
Assuming some level of equivalence is a mistake.
