They don't. In 1982 the Russians informed their mates in Argentina that we didn't have enough jets. They also reported that Hermes had sunk, three times. My, how the navy laughed at that!
Similarly, in the run up to Gulf War the Russians were convinced that British tanks had wonky barrels and couldn't shoot straight because of how they were hardened and they leaked this to the press, many of whom took it as gospel. We all know how well that went (not a single British tank KO'd by unfriendly fire)

Not sure if the video meeting is going ahead today but I hope it does and progress is made.
When interviewed and watched didn't look at all forced to me. They were moved out of the controlled Dombas region.
All sorts will be said about this aspect.
Russia also offered escape routes to them for other Ukrainians. No interest so didn't happen.
