I see vinty is still trying to find excuses for Putin's invasion and war and his attempts to occupy and annexe another country.
Seeing as how the Russians created Ukraine, maybe they should take responsibility for the mess they made.

The shapes of things to come? :

From a good article written in 2014 in Vox. There are many updates, idem.

It paints the back and middle ground of the picture with clarity - it takes a couple of minutes to read which may be too long for some here.

The News is telling us - or letting us believe, that Ukraine is entirely united and anti-Russian apart from a few "saboteurs". Recent history suggests it may have been otherwise.
NB about 250k of 3500k have fled to Russia. Russia claims it's more than that (Tass). A couple of US agencies don't at first look show any (NBC + 1).

I get this feeling that something new/dramatic is going to happen, soon. I hope it's peace/ceasefire but I dread some city being flattened into submission first. I hope I am wrong.

From my sources, lots of rumours in Moscow that Putin is turning on his friends and/or his friends have been rattled by Putins desire for world destruction.

2014 in Vox

It's around that period when there is clearer info available. That changes over time to the current situation where in real terms it's hard to be sure. Recent bang in Kiev for instance, up pops a photo of sheltering military vehicles. Or where they?

;) I do read longer articles. Set google to 2014 and some reports do crop up. The Vox report does sound a little west to me. Crimea is pretty obvious - naval docks. The referendum who knows really for sure. C4 had their lady there and she couldn't see anything wrong but couldn't check results. If anything has been weaponised it's nationalism by Ukraine but there has always been an element of that around. There were fascist type armed groups around fighting in 2014 that had been seen as terrorists, dropped as they fight with Ukraine and is seems still do. How extreme - maybe very for a few. Chechen's another odd group fighting on both sides. The pro Russian ones are still at work. Shown carrying people out of damaged buildings. Also shooting at a bock of flats, guns. Well they would be if anyone was shooting at them. That seems to be the current state in some areas. Messy.

TBH I do feel there is some west versus russia proxy aspects involved. It an element the strategic people will have thought about.

Russia expected to walk straight in. I doubt it but no doubt would say thanks if it turned out that way. It looks more and more like a negotiating style war as some others have turned out to be eventually except intended to work this way more or less from day one. Ever increasing pressure.

Apparently Putin enquired about joining Nato

during a meeting with the nato Secretary General George Robinson

The shapes of things to come?

Could be but I think Muldova has Russian troops at one end. The north end - i think. I believe the communist party figures in the part left. Putin doesn't rate that at all. There appears to be a relationship between presidential power with him and his predecessor to get shut of them. The actual level of their power isn't clear to me. Not really looked but some sort of rearrangement seems to be involved.

The economists reckon we are all in for inflation. Less growth except maybe the USA due to oil prices. One has said that Russia is an important part of globalisation - or was. That may be explained by another comment that they are the largest exporter of commodities.

It seems there may be a way for the USA to prevent Russia's recent debt payment but might be a Russian rumour. They have paid it.

The Arab end of things may figure as well. The UAE want to bring Assad back into the Arab groups. USA unhappy. There may be a Russian aspect to that. The fear with Iran is them getting sufficient fissionable uranium to produce a bomb which would lead to all in that general area wanting one. Russia via negotiation are the ones intended to prevent that happening. The Assad aspect may be to get the USA to finalise the Iranian power station, blocked by Trump. Who I also believe put an end to Venezuelan oil. However Assad needs more money to rebuild Syria. No one so far will provide it.

Nothing radical here, but I'm mooching about looking for objective articles, perhaps decribing Putin's concerns, or from pro-Putin Ukranians, if there are any. A couple of interest came up, first one short, from a journo in Dubai,
https://dubai.ooo/2022/03/21/why-did-ukraine-suspend-11-pro-russia-parties/
Says a bit about the way Ukraine was going. We did know Putin's mate Medvedchuk(sp?) was chucked out as part of a trend P must have found galling. That Pro Russian side (not sure what to call it) of their political parties were holding a quarter os so of the vote. Mostly older, traditionalists. Putin was hoping to foster them.

Here from the USA, a reassuringly comprehensive catalog, thankfully of nutters for the most part, who are a bit more influential than nutters have a right to be. Do they amount to anything - probably not much, but it does remind us how attitudes from the US would be different if Trump were still in the White House.

Maybe sleepy Joe as it turns out, is about the right sort of temperament for the job right now?

This putting it to a referendum idea is good but it needs to happen today.

Which is obviously impossible with Putin's army invading and occupying parts of Ukraine, and arresting or disappearing mayors, politicians, journalists and prominent citizens.

Remember he has no compunction in assassinating opponents even in UK.

True but mark my words it will happen.

Why is Biden not making efforts to meet putin face to face or China, simple answer is biden is playing the big man and putin should come to him and the other leader is ****-stirring

It's looking less likley re ceasefire soon now but you never know.

If I may interject with more facts!!!
The Russian language was set in some schools' curriculums, fact. The leaders of Ukraine removed the right, fact!!!
The Russian language was also, not 100% cert about this was phased out of public buildings/settings.
There were other issues that you can Google.
Just imagine and God forbid if in NI they spoke different languages!!!!
God doesn't exist. If it did, and it was a good god, sh1t like this wouldn't be allowed to happen.

Oh wait, that's right, it's not really anything to do with god. We have been given free will, so god evidently just sits back and watches these things play out.

I don't doubt, and btw I'm not passing judgment on individuals, that people are saying things like 'he's been rescued from the rubble after four days, it's a miracle, our prayers have been answered!'

So, for those who've lost loved ones under rubble etc, their prayers haven't been answered then?
