Resolution 181.

Which made no mention of them declaring the land as their own state.

Even more bollux from you Roy.

The United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine was a proposal by the United Nations, which recommended a partition of Mandatory Palestine at the end of the British Mandate. On 29 November 1947, the UN General Assembly adopted the Plan as Resolution 181 (II).[1]

The resolution recommended the creation of independent Arab and Jewish States linked economically[2] and a Special International Regime for the city of Jerusalem and its surroundings.

The UN mandated for the creation of an independent Jewish state two months after the end of the British Mandate.
But the state of Israel was created by a Declaration of Independence immediately after the end of the British Mandate.
In addition Jersusalem was specifially excluded from the Israel state,

Jerusalem is not an independent city, the creation of the independent Jewish and Arab states was supposed to have ocurred ttwo months after the end of the British mandate, and the independent Arab state has not been created.
Moreover, the Jewish state was supposed to be allowing free, fair and equal treatment of all citizens irrespective of their religion or ethncity. That has not happened, and the Palestinians were evicted from their properties.

The 193-member United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has voted overwhelmingly in favour of a resolution calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in war-torn Gaza. [The] resolution passed with 153 countries voting in favour, 23 abstaining and 10 countries voting against, including Israel and the United States. While the resolution is non-binding, it serves as an indicator of global opinion.

Some how some seem to have forgotten Israel annexing the west bank circa the 60's. That is what earned them a black mark from the UN. This occupation is illegal.

They then proceeded to establish Israeli settlements there. Supposedly stopped eventually but still some doubt about that. Interesting techniques used to do it. The settlements anyway are still there. Farmers and all sorts have lost land. Sometime some are told to clear off for 24hr as military exercises are going to be held. All sorts of things go on.

The Gaza Strip. Common description - an open air prison. That description is generally accepted. West bank. Seems there hasn't been an election there for a rather long time. It's run by PA / Fatah /PLO. It's an odd set up. You can get a general run down here. Notice how aid is used. Note that the USA want this lot to run the Strip at some point.

Hamas has 2 wings. The political lot that run the Gaza strip and the military side. There are also ISIS types and other factions around there. Who did what? Politics - the Gaza strip doesn't have it parliament building any more as it has been flattened. It was a bit posh. A load of people wont have anywhere to live.

According to western journalists when the could roam around many Palestinians want their own state. West bank politicians appears to have lost any interest in it so people aren't that happy about them.

Will it ever get sorted out. Unlikely via the UN as some countries will block any motion to do it,

The UN can 'demand' what they like but Israel clearly don't give a toss about their opinion.

The only country that has any clout at all with Israel is the USA and they voted against the resolution, with the UK abstaining.

They give a lot of aid$ to Israel all of the time. Currently boosted via more bombs.

They could influence Israel as much as they want to via withdrawing that. Rumour used to be that the Jewish vote in the USA is important. However it seems some of those aren't happy about what is going on - proportion? No idea, a couple being interviewed saying they aren't happy is not representative.

One famous USA president decided that Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. ;) Not sure if all think that. However that will have gone down well with Palestinians wont it.

What would your long term plans be for peace in the region?
I would let god handle it. In the end, god is always just. We have a sneak peak of god's intent by the presence of 1 billion strong muslims in the world. The physics of it can only lead to one outcome.
