To me this sort of crime should attract a whole life sentence.

Why?

Because in a sense the victim, whilst still alive, has had their 'normal' life snatched from them. So the perpetrator should spend the rest of their life behind bars.

What you have to remember is the bigots, the racists, the isolationists, they look at those committing crime in two distinct brackets.

White British born people.
Black/brown people whether born here or not.

Their attitude in terms of the first group is 'ah well yes, the crime committed is bad but at least the perpetrator is white and born here' and there's little in the way of mass outcry. Like a sort of entitlement to commit crime. However when someone in the second group commits a similar crime ...
