Winter fuel allowance

Private/Public (not including civil service pensions) pensions are funded differently to state pensions. They are funded by interest and dividends, etc on invested funding.
State pensions are funded from current tax and NI payments from current tax and NI payers.

Still does make the £7 billion deficit ok. That equates to about £1000 per head so all I suggest is that the employees pay more into their pension savings.

increase expenditure on public service pay by far more then would be saved does not look good, prudent or even sensible.
Pay rises are needed to offset the price increases due to inflation. Tory had their natural ones in the general population. A lot of the state side has been clamped down for a long time. Others have as well. What happens eventually - as you may have noticed strikes. The min wage went up by a high %. That will cause inflation. Other increases will as well. This doesn't apply to the state but is their a need to keep them happy? They need to keep people just as any wage payer does. In this particular state increase it included the need for a 2% cut in back office costs. That will happen. Things like this are often forced. Starmer as a mandarin saw one through. Under Blair a lot of DWP people lost their jobs.

So what were Labour thinking about. Walk outs or some relief on price increases or both? Maybe those left if there are job cuts?

Train drivers, Maybe ask how they got to this level of salary. Probably to get them. They have been clamped down as well. Unite reckon that the operators can afford a wage increase. Tory say they have the increase but no increase in efficiency. Reports suggest that trains are no where near ready to run the way wanted and no job losses as some finish up working just in the train rather than what they usually do. Settle the increase or carry on with strikes?

Another very recent Tory speech. Labour have failed to maintain an existing blast furnace until the electric one appears. Just as the Tory had so why bother with the speech. What Labour has negotiated is better than what the Tory achieved but the job losses will happen just as they would under the Tory. They also intend to continue negotiating.

This one is not going away soon.

Their report suggested 3,850 deaths now we learn that no impact assessment was made. Frightening how this could be actual government policy and to ignore the effect on protected groups.

There's more groups than just oaps though.

It's been building for a while.

Mrs Motties mum was the same. Go round her house and it was freezing. "Spend that allowance" we'd say. "They’re (gas co.) not getting that" she'd say. Probably why she has enough dosh for the next dozen years or so in a £70k+ p.a. care home!

Why was that report produced? May wondering about ending WFP.. Politics never have any effects on this sort of thing do they?

The whole benefit system is supposed to work by making a phone call where some questions will be asked which should result in any benefit that is available being paid providing the answers meet the requirements. That's all of them. It should also be possible to arrange a visit.

There are a lot of pensioners that are under care of some sort. I'd ask the Tory just how they would go about making an accurate assessment. What Labour have done is looked at last winter and it's fuel cost compared with now while considering the increases in the state pension. Did the leaked memo come from the most active anti. Did she write it herself or what?

If my mother or father were in a tricky situation I would sort it out for them. Both are dead but fact is while alive I did some of the sorting out. All when my dad died. In his case he would have done it himself. I did need to point out a couple of things that worried him that had solutions. He was terminally ill.

Well in 2017 the Labour Party under Corbyn in which starmer was a shadow cabinet member
Commissioned a report as to what could happen if the fuel allowance was stopped / cut

There was a rumour (?) that the tories were looking at doing so ??

There conclusion was that it would cause 4000 deaths

Things must have obviously changed now :giggle:

It does look to be that way and unfortunately opposition parties aren't fond of having grown up conversations.

Reminds me of a visiting US colleague a while ago. They get PM questions and similar broadcasted on their TV's for them to giggle at. His view on their left and rights is that there is always similarities in aims. LOL Now they have Trump.

Interesting comment
“Over a million pensioners will continue to receive the winter fuel payment and, through our commitment to protect the triple lock, those on the full new state pension will receive an extra £400 – twice the average winter fuel payment.”

It's actually £460 and those on 1/2 a state pension will get 1/2.
A number will pay tax on this increase. In the case of pay rises vast numbers will be paying more tax as well.

The interesting aspect is say Labour did manage to cap the pension support packages cost increase each year to a lower limit all parties would probably cheer - not out loud though.

Apparently according to reports if some one applying for pension credit now ? May be lucky to get there claim processed by February 2025 ??

Average waiting time to speak to some one on the phone about the claim is 50 mins

They don’t have enough staff to deal with the claims

Quite simple Carmen stop giving billions to your union mates. They can do that with no extra money coming in.

Its not the Tory way it is how Labour are running the country.

"The train drivers" will be giving almost half of their extra straight back (in income tax), and another fifth back in vat on most of the rest, as they spend it.

"The Tory way" is to shovel money to their chums, who hide it, off-shore it.......

... you know the score (y)
