Shes soft left not hard left, her significance is as much about being a northern figurehead as her politics.Much more powerful than Prescott. IMO. But not as powerful as Gordon Brown. Somewhere in between.
The Conservatives / RW media are going after Rayner so hard because she is apparently a popular figure with the public.
Obviously her back story chimes with quite a lot of people and she is very supportive of workers rights and reform of care sector.
Personally I think her lack of sophistication as a politician makes her a risk for Labour, although she is pretty feisty and helps balance Starmers rather boring demeanour….although boring and steady is what this country needs right now
