Angela Rayner

There are huge tensions between Starmer and Rayner. She is very powerful and he has to try to keep her sweet. If she ends up seriously damaged by this, I can't imagine Starmer will be too upset.

In the absence of new developments she is ok so long as she keeping all the plates spinning.

She is backed by Unison, so certainly has power.

I would imagine inside the party she is the leader of the left wing faction.

I see AR as being the equivalent as Two Jags was to Blair.

Much more powerful than Prescott. IMO. But not as powerful as Gordon Brown. Somewhere in between.

I agree, but I was thinking of the situation.

Blair had Prescott as deputy…which I think was a “keep your enemy very close” strategy.

I had to look that up!

John initially used to glare at him when he said it, I think it went on for a few years and I've seen footage where JP breaks into a smile suggesting what was originally intended as a slur became good natured banter between the two. I suspect both Soames and Prescott had a sense of humour, you don't see much of that in politics today.

The Conservatives / RW media are going after Rayner so hard because she is apparently a popular figure with the public.

Obviously her back story chimes with quite a lot of people and she is very supportive of workers rights and reform of care sector.

Personally I think her lack of sophistication as a politician makes her a risk for Labour, although she is pretty feisty and helps balance Starmers rather boring demeanour….although boring and steady is what this country needs right now

John P. was well known for his sense of humour - unless you egged him on too far.
